I was travelling with a friend for week in Cambodia and this was our first stop. Absolutely loved this boutique hotel with it's gorgeous garden and pool area (like an oasis) as well as the stunning colonial building which the reception and spa area is in. We had a room with it's own private pool and it was absolutely incredible. Had such a great experience here and will definitely recommend to friends.

We stayed in a deluxe room at The Pavillion - it was a large room with a balcony. The hotel has a lovely swimming pool and gardens. The staff are friendly and there were always tuk-tuks waiting out the front. It cost $2 in a tuk-tuk to the Riverside (bars, restaurants, etc). Rather than use the hotel laundry service (which charged per garment) we used one of the laundry services within easy walking distance ($2/kg). On our departure day, the hotel organised a taxi for us to take us to the airport. It turned up on time and cost $15.

This hotel is very quaint, and the public areas especially are very nice. The pool and garden are delightful; it feels small and intimate without ever feeling overly romantic (I was travelling with a friend.). The beds seemed a bit hard at first, but then for 4 nights I slept better than I often do at home, and found it very comfortable.

Location is excellent. Food is good , and the drinks list is small but fine. The house wines were entirely decent; a pleasant surprise. Service at the restaurant was really great, all the time. Throughout the hotel, service was good but unobtrusive. Staff generally just let us enjoy the property, and we were never interrupted by housekeeping. This is not as chic as the old hotel de la place in Siem Reap (now a Park Hyatt); it is a few grades below a property like that - but it is absolutely charming, and great value, clean and comfortable and with a nice clientele.

The one complaint we had is that the curtains are white, they don't have backing, and it gets light before 6am. Ouch, after a big night ;) BYO eye mask; you'll need it.

My gf and I had an amazing two days here. This is a small, interesting, intimate, historical, clean, friendly, and beautiful hotel.

Pros:
Beautiful garden/pool area
Centrally located in a nice neighborhood
Helpful staff
Beautiful buildings
Amazing smells

Cons:
Rooms are pretty small
Technology isn't very modern- especially the in-room computers!
The masseuses were pretty apathetic
Bathroom isn't very modern

The overall feel of this hotel is exceptional. The staff really went out of their way and bent the rules to make our stay very memorable.

Room Tip: The $75 superior double gets you a nicer view. The room isn't all that big.

We stayed at the Pavilion while on our honeymoon and it was the highlight of our trip!! From the moment we entered the Pavilion we were enchanted! The architecture is beautiful and the gardens were so welcoming and relaxing. We were greeted by the wonderful staff with some fresh juice who showed us to our private suite with jacuzzi. The jacuzzi was broken the first night and the staff apologized and offered us a complimentary 70-min couples massage in addition to the 25min complimentary massage you receive when checking in. Our room was large, clean, and cool with fresh flower petals on the bed. We enjoyed the beautiful pool and cocktails, and we were so close to the palace and great restaurants. We stayed for 2 nights and I wish it could have been for longer. We will definitely be returning. I was blown away by the hospitality and service--better than anywhere I have stayed in the U.S., even the 5-star hotels. You will not regret staying here.

Room Tip: private bungalows with jacuzzi or pools are great--good value and very romantic!

God, where do I start. My boyfriend had booked this hotel as a surprise for my birthday. We were picked up in an old jag and driven to the pavilion. Superpeacefull in the city. Amazing garden and pool. We arrived early so the room wasnt ready yet, but we could start with the complementary 25min massage. Was a nice way to start our day. Also we had gotten some local/fusion snack and a fresh fruitjuice on arrival and after the massage we got a cup of tea.we just sat by the pool and ordered so e food when we were told our room was ready. No problem, they would bring the food there. When we went to the room, we went trough a wooden fence to find our very private little house with garden. So cute. I went in to change and when I came out, three of the staffmembers where there with cake and a candle and red roses. This was their own initiativive, my boyfriend had only ordered a bottle of champagne. This was so adorable! Then our meals were brought and we had a lovely day!

The room was nice and clean and the bed felt like heaven. The breakfast next morning was unbeatable, choose the fried vegatables!

You should definetly go to this hotel, they make you feel like a person and take the extra step to make you feel welcome!

Thanks!

Room Tip: Choose the ones with pool/jacuzzi, great value!

but in the grand scheme of things it didn't upset us too much. We had arranged for pick up in the hotel Jaguar but got an SUV instead. We had also booked a twin room for 4 nights and were given a double instead. This mattered because it was for my mother-in-law and my nephew. We had also late booked an extra double room for my daughter and luckily it had a double and single bed in it. It was only available for 3 nights and so necessitated a move for them to a sister hotel nearby on our last night.
My partner and I had a private pool room and we loved it, however, the pool could have done with a bit of a clean. The staff were friendly and helpful and not intrusive at all. The refreshing drink and towels on arrival were appreciated.
The main pool was lovely and refreshing. We liked the location because we are not into the bar scene and found no problems getting to places we wanted to go. Mr Yaya is a local tuk tuk driver who sits opposite the hotel and we happily used him most days.
Communication with the hotel prior to our arrival was prompt and helpful. We would love to come back.

Many Many thanks for this kind review and excusing us for the several issues you had during your stay! We have held a general meeting with the staff related to those and hope this will not happen again. Cheers, Alexis

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
It all started when we fell in love with a hidden gem of French-Khmer architecture from the 1920s near Wat Botum, one of the most venerable and original pagodas in Phnom Penh. Renovation and remodeling were led with due respect for the character of a building which had been, as we learnt it later on, a private retreat for Queen Consort Sisowath Kossamak, the late King Sihanouk's mother. Opened on August, 18, 2006 with 10 rooms, The Pavilion has slowly expanded over the years, offering now 36 accommodations throughout three more period buildings that have been added to the property: "The New House", former residence of the chief veterinarian at the Royal Palace; "The New Villa", formerly the private residence of a Cambodian senator, and "The Sun-Pool Villa", our latest addition which used to be lodgings for diplomats based in Phnom Penh. Each one has its own style and atmosphere, with distinctive architectural features such as an elaborate wooden stairway, intricate iron wrought railings, etc… ... more   less
