We had a one night stay in the Pavilion and we can clearly recommend it. But the hotel could be much better with some little effort. An update of wall painting and the bathrooms would make a big difference. It appears worn. The service is nice but also quite decent compared to our other experiences in Vietnam and Cambodia.
A minus ist the breakfast room, if you come in busy moments there are not enough tables for all guests. And this is a no-go.
We had a surprise when we left: The receptionists told us that it takes 30 mins to the airport. In fact it took us nearly 90 minutes and we were about to miss our international flight home. And the driver told us that it always takes that long. This is not professional. Make sure you take enough time to go.
Conclusion: The basics are very good, some improvements in appearance and management required, then it would deserve the 5 stars.

Dear Gwham,

I am very sorry some aspects of our hotel disappointed you.
We have just increased the size of the poolside bar where the breakfast is served. Perhaps not enough... Similarly, we did all the bathrooms in the last six months. I will check the wall painting again.

But 90 minutes to reach the airport which is just 9.5km away is bit much. There must have been some exceptional traffic. At night it is 15 minutes and at 5pm usually not over 45 minutes... don't know what happened....

We can indeed tell our guests to plan for 45 minutes.

Cheers,

Alexis

We spent three nights in Phnom Penh, two in a similar hotel (Villa Paradiso), and one in The Pavilion. The Pavilion is definitely the better of the two, located in the centre of town, in very close proximity to the main sights, shopping and restaurants. These are quick and easy enough to reach by tuk tuk - there is a helpful "tuk tuk prices guide" by the exit, so the drivers waiting outside know not to try their luck ripping you off.

The plot the hotel is set on is small, but filled with wonderful tropical foliage which obscures the perimeter wall, giving the place an impression of being set in the centre of a lush forest. The pool at the front of the building is lovely, and the building and lobby are full of charm. We stayed in one of the cheaper rooms, snug but cozy, clean and well-appointed.

The staff were welcoming and friendly, and made us feel at home. They offered free use of one of the shower rooms (after we had checked out when we came to pick up our luggage late at night) - a welcome touch after spending a day out in hot Pnomh Penh!

Would definitely recommend this place.

I stayed at the Pavilion for 2 nights, and loved it. It is a lovely small hotel with great staff - always friendly, smiling and helpful. They have a range of rooms - I stayed in one of the cheapest ones which was nicely decorated and very clean, and with a comfy bed. The pool area was great.
The location was also good - in walking distance to restaurants and cafes.
I would definitely stay there again, highly recommended.

This is a lovely, small, informal hotel offering a small oasis in the middle of bustling Phnom Penh. We were made very welcome, the room was lovely and it was only a 5 minute walk to various bars and restaurants. If you aren't looking for a busy international hotel but a more homely atmosphere then this place is to be highly recommended

We stayed at The Pavilion for two nights and loved the hotel. It has a style of its own. The room (we were in a superior one) was spacious and had everything we needed. The bathroom was clean everything worked. The secluded pool was wonderful. There were loungers around it, and a convenient Bar, which also served simple evening meals. The atmosphere in the evening was enhanced by waterside candlelight. The staff was very welcoming and keen to make our stay as carefree as possible. We also took advantage of the time to have a relaxing massage! I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Phnom Penh - it provides a wonderfully peaceful retreat after a hectic day in the city.
