The Olympic Stadium

The pool is 50 metres long, while the diving pit is slightly cantankerous with age but still a blessing.

If you arrive at dawn or early enough you have the place to yourself. The price is $1.50 to enter, 500 riel to store your goods.

1000 riel for a sugar cane drink from the vendor outside if you need a quick energy boost of to hydrate. Or buy water/soft drinks/pot noodles from the swimming pool staff/

Can get busy with classes and annoying loud people later in the day, closes for lunch, and comparatively early in the evening.

Very happy this place exists!

I had read in my guide book about the stadium and its aerobic exercise classes in the evening so as a part time exerciser I wanted to take part for the novelty factor. The stadium is very large and attracts large numbers of local people in the evenings from about 5pm (I think it may be similar in the morning also) so I went along and joined in with a class for 50 cents (!) for an hour class. The stadium was alive with different classes and different energy level classes. It really was an amazing site even if you don't join in I only wish we had this sort of provision in the UK rather than having to pay excessive gym memberships!

this used to be an open place with the stadium in the middle, a lovely building by the khmer architect, van molyvann. it has been sold by the government to real estate developpers. sure it is now developped! the poor stadium can hardly be seen behind the hideous shopping malls and condominiums soon available....and traffic around the stadium is horrendous because of all the works..disfigured for the sake of profit...a temple to consuming society, a shame!

Get away from the crowds of tourists. The Olympic Stadium gathers all the locals going here early morning or late afternoon doing exercise. I went there around 5pm with some friends, enjoyed local food and watched all the people dance in small (or some actually quite big) groups in front of improvised speakers. Great place to hang around! (Or do some actual jogging around the stadium's running tracks).

This stadium was built in 1963-64. It survived the civil war and the Khmer Rouge era. Now it is used by many residents of Phnom Penh for morning and evening exercise. Once a while, you could watch some local teams playing soccer here. Attached to it is an Olympic size swimming pool and diving pool. Sadly, the land surrounding it is being developed and the new apartments and shopping mall will block the view of the streets around it.
