Unlike other FCCs, the Foreign Correspondent Club in Phnom Penh is not an exclusive members club, meaning you can stay, eat and drink here whatever you do for a living, although it does offer a discount for members of other FCCs.
The FCC is essentially a very small boutique hotel. It has a handful of spacious rooms with big double beds, a classic reporter's writing desks, a safe, good air con, and good bathroom -- mine was more a wet room with just a shower but did the job just fine. Very spacious and clean, and an excellent breakfast which is cooked for you (as opposed to a buffet).
As a journalist, I have to confess I loved every second staying here, although I agree with one of the other reviewers that it is probably a bit overpriced -- you are paying for the experience and reputation as well as the accommodation.
The hotel is very well-located on the riverfront, where you'll find a lot of other bars and restaurants, and it's a stones throw from the Royal palace and the national museum. You can also grab a tuc tuc to the central market area for less than USD4.
I think the top roof terrace is very overrated, the restaurant on the floor below is better. Food is good, service is very good, and the reception staff did a very fast turnaround on my airport transfer request. It is also a favourite among expats which makes it a good place to meet semi-locals.
However, this is very much a boutique, so aide from the rooms and bar/restaurant there are no other amenities, and there is a slightly amateur feel to the place -- for example, although they confirmed a wake-up call, it never happened.
But I would have no hesitation recommending this place to a friend (a friend recommended it to me).
