“Is this an hotel or a restaurant?”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel in November. All the rooms had names and ours was Banteay Kdei. The room was a great disappointment. There was not enough room on one side of the bed to get in and out. The sheets looked grey, with age, but were probably clean. The shower room was not in great condition with cracked tiles and a not very clean curtain surrounding the shower. Any wardrobe, drawer space was all in the bathroom. The room we were in was accessed off the main stairway into the restaurant and this led into a small hallway off which were 4 bedrooms. This small hallway was also used as a storage area - fold up beds and clean and dirty bedlinen were left here. But the main problem was the noise coming from the roof top bar. This is a popular spot in PP and in the 3 nights we stayed there on 2 of the nights events were held. Music could be heard quite easily 200m down the road. Our bedroom windows were 10m across the back well of the building from where the music speakers were situated. We literally could not hear each other in this room. We had had a lot of early morning starts and had been up from 6am this particular morning. We are not party poopers and travel with ear plugs but this was just way OTT. We infact got up at 11pm and walked the streets until midnight. The group played until 12.30. A reasonable bar and restaurant with good views but they have to decide whether they are running a bar or an hotel.

Room Tip: I cannot see that the noise in the 4 bedrooms in the main buiding would be any quieter from each oth...

Everyone seems to know where the FCC is in Phnom Penh, it's been the place to go for thirty years – and while it's showing its age in some respects, the 2-bdrm apartment we had was a great find for our family of five (with three under-6's). It's not luxury, but it's clean enough and it's right on the waterfront with views over the river from the front room and private balcony.

Room Tip: The Director's Suite is the name of the 2-bdrm apartment we had. It has a river view form the n...

Fantastic bar and restaurant with great views, helpful staff and even the prices were very reasonable. Visit late afternoon for fabulous sunset views and to get a table overlooking the waterfront - its also happy hour! Watch out as you leave though - one of our group was pickpocketed of his iPhone, possibly taregtted due to large number of westerners who are seen to be easy pickings!

Right on the waterfront, this is a great hotel, although a little expensive. Rooms are nicely laid out, although we were kind of round the back, having to go back outside the building and around the corner to get to our room. The bar is very atmospheric, and as it's close to the centre of town, a great place to stay

My husband and I stayed at the FCC twice this may during our trip to Cambodia this past May. It's a very cool little boutique hotel and bar, with a rich history and good service. Clean and spacious, a fantastic place to set up camp and explore Phnom Penh.

Room Tip: Only 4 rooms to chose from, and we were in the same one each time, ours had a balcony which had a gr...

If you are looking for a hotel in the centre of the busiest part of Phnom Penh, with character, charm and history then this could be the place for you. Just had 4 nights here and it was a real treat. Hotel pickup from the airport, reception organised and helpful in arranging everything we needed including tickets for the next leg of our trip, rooms fine and food marvelous. Couple that to the fact that you overlook the river, are 2mins for the palace and the other major tourist sites. True to say that in places it could do with a little TLC but the overall effect of the place is superb.

Room Tip: Try to get the main room overlooking the front entrance to the hotel, sit on your balcony and watch...

Upon arrival at the FCC, we were criticised by the gentleman on reception for not getting a hotel transfer from the bus drop off point. He rudely asked us why we were only staying one night and when we said we had were leaving for Koh Kong in the morning by early bus he again criticised us for not taking a private taxi organised by the hotel! He said it would cost $70, we told him it was out of our budget... his exact words were ''no, it's not out of your budget". We were shocked and saddened by our unwelcoming. However, the two gentlemen on reception the following morning bent over backwards to help us.

The FCC itself has seen better days. The bar was great; drinks and views over the rivers are clearly a staple on the tourist circuit. Perhaps owing to this guaranteed traffic, the food was much by far the least impressive we ate in cambodia - mediocre at best. The bar and waiting staff themselves were all very pleasant.

In summary: overpriced and trading on past glories. Drop by for a cocktail but don't expect a surplus of faded romantic glamour.
