The 2 bedroom suite on the corner with view of the pool and river is excellent. Pool area is nice to relax and the pool is big enough for laps. Their gym is small, but efficient. Breakfast was enjoyable with good service. Location is great as it's only minutes away from the Royal Palace, National Museum and a variety of restaurants and bars. Value for money is quite attractive - all things considered.

Room Tip: Go for the river or pool view rooms. You should note that this is a hotel/serviced apartments.

Firstly, the atmosphere that the hotel evoked was warm and nice. When you enter the hotel, a traditional instrumentalist greets you with traditional Khmer music.

Secondly, the food at the Oyster Restaurant is outstanding! Besides the good
spread of breakfast, the food ok the menu is great as well. The waiters and waitresses are extremely warm and friendly, making the entire dining experience very pleasant.

The rooms are excellent as well, with a great view of the Mekong river. It is very clean, and the staff cleaning up the room is trustable as well. There is high speed internet connection available on wifi as well, which is an added bonus.

In a nutshell, I had a very pleasant and excellent experience at the Himawari hotel apartments. Very nice atmosphere and warm and friendly staff!

I have stayed in Himawari since 2007, each year about 80 days. I have seen international managers of various kinds...some courteous and hard working, some with lip service only, some snobbish, some who never show up to at least to greet the guests...but the local Manager Mr. Heng has been a role model to all those types of international managers to guide them how they should treat the guests. He is always with a Himawari smile, patient, understanding, then hard working, always available to listen to your requests.
During my future visits, someday I wish to see him being promoted to the international maganer and make lots of differences in the hotel.
I wish him the best in that path!

The rooms are fairly spacious and I feel fairly comfortable. I don't feel like I am in a confined room when I stay over weekends. The hotel staff are very friendly. I have been travelling on a weekly basis to Phnom Penh. Tried Phnom Penh hotel, Central Mansion and Willow Hotel but I still like Himawari best! Good breakfast to start the day. The river view is excellent if you get up at 5.00 a.m. in the morning.

I don't believe this place is worth what you pay a night to stay here, I will start with the pool, the pool is nice and has a good kids pool with a small play ground, the service by the pool is really bad we waited one hour for a cocktail, the breakfast is also terrible. I would say the best thing about this hotel would be the friendly staff and micro brewery beer.
Oh yer there is also a boat cruise out the front the scenery is beautiful but do not eat the food is was horrible I threw mine overboard.

I'm not particularly a fan of huge hotels, with space so big it's evident sometimes they don't know what to do what it .... This trip to Cambodia I have managed to stay at two these hotels - HImawari in pnom penh and sokha Angkor in siem reap - both by business arrangement .

I am now at HImawari - a hotel apartment that offers u the full beauty of the tonle sap - it's dual existence serves as a river and a lake, and is a unesco biosphere heritage site.

To marvel at this beauty, you gotta make sure u have booked a room with the lake view - full or partial, depending on your investment .

There's a melancholy beauty about Cambodia, perhaps due to it's badly scarred history of sadness, and this seem to be carefully buried deep within the smiles of the gentle Cambodians and their hospitality....

Here at himawar there's an in house microbrewery, with a bar sitting right In front of the lake - it boasts of the best veers in town and a lake view to complement. I will get my pint this evening.

Rooms are averagely clean and well kept . Service is very efficient.- they fixed my ironing within ten minutes as I was rushing for a meeting

There's no upperty minimalist design where u could not find where a drawer starts and end, no cutting edge apple-supported tech gadgets in your room to play with. Just simple comfort - nothing posh nor pretentious

Just don't forget to ask for a room with view. Spend lots of time at alfresco areas staring at the waters that originates from the Himalayas, walk along the it's banks and thank Mother Nature for the beauty before your eyes ...

This hotel is not what you expect in the centre of an Asian capital city. It is more akin to those you might find in the Caribbean. The entrance foyer is spacious and airy and has terracotta tiling on the floor. It leads out onto a terrace overlooking the confluence of the Meekong and Tonle Sap rivers.

The rooms themselves are where things get a little quirky. The building was apartments before it's conversion into a hotel. Our "room" consisted of two bedrooms, a lounge area, two bathrooms (one en suite) and a kitchen area complete with microwave and washing machine. The room was clean, but was a little dark and dingy. The bedrooms are carpeted, but the other areas are tiled, and the lounge in particular was a little slippery if wearing just socks. Despite a large bathroom, there was a shower over the bath rather than a proper walk in shower. Some rooms ( not ours) overlook the river, but most have views of the car park, road or next door hotel. Having said that, there is plenty of space to spread out, and is in complete contrast to the size or rooms generally in south east Asia. We had problems with the door self locking, and the lifts to the rooms were a little unpredictable as to where they might take you.

The public areas are a little tired, and in need of upgrading. The service varied from indifferent to verging on the non-existence, particularly at breakfast time and in the bar, although reception was much more efficient. Breakfast was poor. The western style hot food was uneatable, and the Asian hot food not much better. There was a very poor range of cold foods, and what was there was no better than acceptable. Tea and coffee refills were hard to come by. Some guests in road side rooms complained of the noise.

On the plus side, the hotel is very open and airy for its city centre location. It has a large swimming pool with bar, and ample sun beds. The terrace has great views over the river, and there is the added bonus of a microbrewery in the hotel itself. (Excellent beers, and a real surprise). The hotel was also very clean, and was comfortable. It is right in the centre within a gentle stroll of the Palace and numerous river front bars and restaurants, and only a short tuk tuk ride from just about anywhere in the city.

There are some real issues here, not least of which is the poor service, however, if you can see beyond that, the tired decor, poor breakfast and the road noise, the location, microbrewery and pool make the stay worthwhile. But if you are a stickler for good service, or like a good breakfast, try somewhere else.

Room Tip: Avoid a room overlooking the road.
