“Our first home in Cambodia!”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

My husband and I were relocating to Cambodia and chose Himawari for our initial month's stay... a decision that paid off handsomely!

Rooms: clean, spacious suites with kitchenette and dining area
Facilities: thoroughly enjoyed playing tennis under lights; great swimming pool and an open air jacuzzi
Staff: extremely friendly but conversing in English can sometimes be a worry
Location: on the foot of the promenade with access to the main tourist street of phnom penh
Others: great views from the open air restaurant though it can get rather lonely and dull in the evenings; should liven it up with live band / music at least on weekends

Highly recommended for leisure and business travellers as the place has a calming sense of introducing what Cambodia has to offer!

Keep it up...

Dear Naina,

Thank you for conveying your kind compliments and feedback to us about your stay at Himawari, your first home. We’re very delighted to know that Himawari has helped both your husband and you to feel at home in Cambodia during your first visit.

It’s great to know that you have enjoyed our facilities, especially our tennis court, pool and open-air Jacuzzi. Himawari pool has been recommended as the best pool with the best view (overlooking the river) in Phnom Penh. It is very popular among both locals and expats.

We also take note of your concern about our staff’s English language ability and we will work on it to ensure that they can better communicate with our guests.

Your suggestion about having music over the weekend to make our river side restaurant livelier is very much welcome and appreciated! With your feedback, we will explore ways to make our river side garden terrace and our restaurant areas even more vibrant.

We thank you for your positive encouragement and will keep up our service quality to deliver the best possible service and utmost comfort of all our guests, making Himawari a home away from home!

We would like to wish both of you a very pleasant stay in Phnom Penh and a very successful assignment in Cambodia!

We look forward to hosting both of you again soon in the near future!

Warmest regards,

Himawari Management

Although we were in an organised tour so not sure of room rates pppn, the hotel itself was great, the hotel used to be a residence hotel for embassy workers, therefore all rooms had separate kitchenette and lounge, we had a mini suite which was great. Staff are attentive and very friendly, we only had breakfast at the hotel, buffet style, which was plentiful, the hotel is located within easy walking distance of the main areas, but a tuk tuk ride is only 3-4 dollars and has to be experienced. Furnishings in the hotel are somewhat dated but I think that adds to the charm, clean, friendly and it's own microbrewery what more can you want, try the sampling package for the beers, saves ordering a large drink and not liking it.

Although the rooms are very big, the hotel is getting old and rusty. We did like the spa the size of the apartment, and the location. We did not like the fact that our room was not ready at 4pm, the hotel was old and somewhat crappy and the swimming pool was dirtish. Would not recommend for this price.

Dear Eric,

Thank you very much for your kind and honest feedback! We deeply regret about your less appealing encounter at Himawari!

We are very sorry that we couldn’t prepare your room upon your check in as we were running on very high occupancy. We will ensure that such incidence will not happen again in the future.

We will definitely take your feedback seriously and commit to make necessary improvements in order to deliver better service and more delightful experience to all our guests. We hope that your last experience with us will not deter you from choosing Himawari as one of your accommodation options during your future visit to Phnom Penh.

Thank you once again and we look forward to hosting your family and you again soon at Himawari!

Time of Stay: 20/12/2013 to 24/12/2013
Rooms: 9/10
Location: Sort of out of the thick of things but close enough to walk (if keen) or a short tuk tuk ride to explore other parts. Suited us nicely. Being on the river was nice also.
Housekeeping: Excellent
Staff: We found all staff to be ever so friendly, really lovely people.
Dining: The buffet breakfast was very nice and surely catered for all tastes. We dined in the restaurant only but once and had no complaints there either.
Microbrewery: Ah yes this was my favourite place to be after a day of tripping around Phnom Penh. The beer was very enjoyable & the service exceptional.
Pool: The pool looked fantastic and a decent size but it must have been the coldest December week in PP (which was great for exploring) so a bit chilli for us to take a plunge.

We found the Himawari to be a great place with lovely staff.

I visited Himawari last year on 15th May and thought
I should give a fair review about this beautiful hotel after
reading the unfair rating from Yushavia. Based on his/her review
it seems unjust to give only one star as they were other good points
about this hotel. For example the lovely garden beside the river is a great
place to chilled out, watching the sun set not to mentioned the hotel
has their own Himawari brewed beer. I am planning to come back to
stay in this hotel again on my nest visit.

The location of this hotel is a great plus point, within walking distance
to all the major places and the staff were most attentive and
welcoming during my stay there. My suite was spacious and bright with the
air condition functioned well. Only the bathroom I found a
little dark due to the lighting and a bit dated. The
balcony should be provided with seating arrangements
(chairs and a small coffee table). Our room was overlooking
the tennis court so it is pretty quiet at night. We stayed
in a studio suite with well equipped kitchen.

I fail to understand why Yushavia make such
comment QUOTE "They call them apartments but they have only a
single room - not what I expected!!!" UNQUOTE as there are other larger
apartment with more rooms to choose from. Perhaps her lack of communication
with the front staff. I have a feeling that he/she could be a undercover competitor
with the mission to run this lovely hotel down judging by the way he/she put it comparing
to all the major chain hotels like Fairmont in Singapore may note seem a fair comparison.
After all I failed to see any review from him/her in the Fairmont hotel in Singapore, or the apartment mentioned in Hanoi which I plan to visit after Cambodia.

Dear Auyong,

Our sincere gratitude for your kind comment and compliment for Himawari!

We’re deeply encouraged by your positive encouragement and we will strive towards offering an even better guest experience at Himawari.

Your feedback about the bathroom and the balcony is well noted and we will definitely look into these areas.

Kindly let us know should you decide to come with your family on your next trip so that we could arrange a bigger apartment with more rooms for you. Our front office team will be more than glad to assist you upon check in or on advance arrangement.

We wish you a very pleasant trip to Hanoi and look forward to receiving you at Himawari again soon in the near future.

The spacious rooms, good beds and lines, the very good breakfast buffet, secure parking are all good, and up to what can be expected in that price range. The small kitchenettes are functional and welcome. Bathrooms need an upgrade, i.e. in terms of lighting. But mainly these old, narrow bathtubs need to be removed. Standing in them to take a shower is really dangerous, walk-in shower stalls are the norm in this category of hotel. There are balconies in front of the rooms, but no furniture to use them. Poor thinking. I wish there would be some personality and Phnom-Penh-flair to this place, instead it is an anonymous business hotel which literally could be anywhere in the world. Service, especially from the front desk, is unfriendly and unprofessional (I was charged with other peoples drink bills.). l won't return.

Room Tip: Towards the river, 5th floor. Don't get a room towards Sisowath Quai. Very noisy.
