I stayed here for a 5 day work trip. The location cannot be beat. Walk across the street and you are on street 240 with restaurants, cafes and shopping boutiques. Rooms are spacious and bright with kitchenette. The pool is large and great for swimming laps. Be sure to ask for a room on the back side of the hotel if you want peace and quiet. I am a single female traveler and asked to change rooms after they put me on the 1st floor next to a walkway where someone could enter my room through the terrace. The staff were accommodating but only moved me up one level. Still it was a better room with a nicer view and better layout (before I had a view of the chain link fence of the tennis court). Recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the backside, second floor or higher

We stayed 3 nights at the Himawari in Phnom Penh (PP) in early August 2012. It is a very clean, professional, and well-run hotel with a large pool area, fitness centre, and tennis court. We had a large 1 bedroom apartment and apart from being near the tennis court, we had no complaints. The staff were very helpful and efficient, room service was delicious and good value, and I would definitely recommend the buffet breakfast to get your morning started. Pool and spa were fantastic to relax around with plenty of sun lounges and shade.

The location at Sisowath Quay is probably the best in PP as being by the river gives you a bit of a break from the city chaos. You can also walk to restaurants, bars, money exchange, travel agents (in case you need to bus it to Sihanoukville, Siem Reap, Vietnam etc), and shops along the riverside and visit the Royal Palace and National Museum (10-15 minute walk from hotel). You will also find it very easy to pick up a tuk tuk driver for the day if you walk along Sisowath Quay......they all seem to have the same price (approx $15 USD) for a day tour of both the Killing Fields and Genocide Museum (S-21 Prison).

While PP is not one of the most beautiful or exciting cities in Asia, the Himawari was a great option for a short stay.

Room Tip: Avoid getting a room overlooking the tennis court as they start playing early some mornings and can...

My family and I stayed here for 3 days and were impressed straight away. Although I'd booked and paid for an exec 2-bedroom apartment, we were immediately upgraded to a 3-bed for no apparent reason. Not complaining at all! The apartment was great - large bedrooms each with an ensuite, great pool view and a view of Mekong River etc. The kitchen had everything you could need or want and we had a washing machine (much used as we were at the end of a 2 week holiday). Security was over-the-top though, probably something to do with the ASEAN conference. Loved the guards with AK47s outside the gate and the full body and bag screening every time we came back from touring around - not! Great location - just a 5 minute walk to the restaurant strip on the river front and other touristy areas. Beware the tuk tuk drivers - they don't take "no" for an answer. Very, very annoying from the moment you step outside the hotel gates.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view.

I stayed for 1 week in a 2 rooms apartment facing the street. On and off there were strange loud noise that came from a small store room right beside my apartment. The noise was terrible because it's 24 hours non-stop. Complaint to the staff, they said I'm too sensitive for noise. Each night, local young men race their motorbike on the street until 12am. The noise was really disturbing. Then, 5am the street would be noisy again with all the motorbike noise. Really can't have a good sleep at all whether day or night.

Stayed here in June, incredible place with fantastic, polite, attentive staff. I booked a 1 bedroom apartment and when I arrived was up-graded to a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment which was really nice. The food was superb and the swimming pool was amazing. Miss Channy sales co-ordinator who up-graded me was extra specially nice with the up-grade. I would without hesitation stay here again. A really great Hotel.

I spent 3 weeks in a studio during a business trip to Phnom Penh and found it the perfect place to stay. Its location is unmatchable - on the riverbank where the Tonle Sap and the Mekong converge. Very peaceful and quiet but an easy walk to the main Riverside restaurants, Royal Palace, Museum, Silver Pagoda etc.

My room on the 4th floor had a lovely view of the river, although most of the best views are from the bigger apartments. The studio was large, with a king bed and a couple of upholstered chairs and a small dining table for 2. Be aware that the bed is hard - as are most Asian beds - and the pillows are feathers (my pet hate!). The aircond is more than adequate, though personally I don't like it blowing on the bed. The kitchen was fully equipped, with full sized refrigerator, microwave, hotplates and all the cooking gear you need. There is a Pencil supermarket about 5 minutes walk away if you want to cook for yourself (though why would you when there are so many great and inexpensive restaurants in PP?). No washing machine in the studio apartments, but the Himawari has a very efficient laundry service (in by 9.00am, back that evening) or there is a $1 per kilo laundry a few minutes walk away. For small stuff there is a clothes line over the bath.

The bathroom is small but clean and modern, and if you remember to turn on the hot water booster there is plenty of hot water. The apartment is serviced daily (though sometimes quite late in the day) and everything is kept very clean.

The pool is great - big enough to do laps. It gets pretty crowded in the afternoon, especially on weekends, so if you want to do laps, go early in the morning. The gym is well-equipped though some of the equipment is getting a bit tired. I didn't use the tennis court (too hot and wet!), but it looks good and has night lights.

The breakfast buffet was fabulous - tons of choice, with fresh fruit, eggs, pancakes, noodles etc to order as well as lots of chafing dishes full of different things. The best thing though was the staff. I was always welcomed with a big smile and after a couple of days, my preferred tea was brought to me without asking!

There was also an evening buffet, as well as a la carte. The buffet looked fresh and varied. The a la carte was pretty good, though not up to the standard of top PP restaurants. It was inexpensive by western standards, though fairly pricey for PP. The exception was the cocktails! At $3.80 per cocktail, they were great value - but even better was the free second one during Happy Hour from 4 - 8pm! Perfect on the outdoor terrace overlooking the river in the evening.

The Bizcafe is good for a coffee and sandwich or cake - though it is quite expensive. Loved the selection of books (in several languages) that you can borrow.

There is a hairdresser and spa across the carpark, both of which were quite expensive by PP standards ($25 for 1hr massage) but very clean and good.

Overall, I would rate the Himawari as the best place to stay in PP. It is not as luxurious as the Raffles, but for the price it was top-rate. And the staff were so friendly and helpful that I cannot praise them enough. It makes all the difference to a stay when the staff are always smiling and willing to talk and assist.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view, preferably away from the road.

Not really many big pros or cons. We just had a wonderful stay.
The place is adequate in all departments in it's category. Only 1 thing really stands out: the location.
Priceless

Room Tip: Not worth it if you don't take river view. Make sure you get it or go to a cheaper place
