“Atmospheric reminder of appalling history”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

Excellent site recalling the horror of Cambodia's recent history. A must see for all students of South-East Asian, and Oceania history. What more can be said? it's an appalling legacy, that is important to remember the facts about. Very good audio guide.

“Don't miss the small museum”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

I don't have anything to add to the other reviewer's comments on the actual experience of being there - they have said it well. I do want to point out that it takes quite a while to get there - 45 minutes to an hour with all the traffic. Another recent reviewer commented on all the dust she was covered in by the time she got there. They are re-surfacing one of the main roads on the way and it is full of gravel and dust for a long stretch. I imagine it will be this way for months. We took a taxi - not a tuk tuk - as our hotel advised. They advised it becuase of the distance (taxi is faster), but we were glad also because of the dust issue. A taxi is not expensive by any western standard - it cost us $17 USD (on the meter) each way, and our driver waited for us while we did the tour. Well worth it.
Also - I want to suggest that you stop into the small museum at the end of the tour. It seemed like most people were skipping that. It's not much - a lot of photos and an example of the clothing worn by the people. I only spent about 10 minutes, reading a few of the stories. It was the photos of the excavation after the mass graves were found that really struck me - even more than the memorial filled with actual skulls of the victims.

“Must see”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

This Place is just outside Phnom Pehn, around 30 min drive with the bus, and is an experience you'll never forget. I would recommend to do this place with a guide as it does give you a better impression of what happened. However once you're there I'm sure you get the picture, and it ain't pretty ;(

“A sad place”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

This is one of the hardest "attractions" to review due to the nature of the site. The audio guide (included in the $6 entrance fee with a good choice of languages) is very informative about the history of the site and the suffering of the Cambodian people at the hands of the Khmer Rouge. The field itself is both a naturally beautiful area whilst the history and atmosphere made this a very sad place. The infants mass grave and the killing tree are heart breaking. When you consider how warm and friendly the locals are it is almost beyond belief that this Genocide occurred.

The tuk tuk ride to this site of long and dusty, I would recommend bringing or buying a dust mask.

“In Phnom Penh? You need to go.”
Reviewed December 6, 2013 via mobile

I felt a little ignorant that I was unaware of the full extent of the atrocities that occurred here during the Pol Pot regime. 1 in 4 Cambodians captured, taken to places like this in trucks, told they were being taken to a new home and then executed in the worst imaginable ways. The audio is informative and heartfelt. It's an eerie feeling standing among other tourists but most are looking down at the ground silently listening to the audio. These war crimes should never be forgotten and Cambodia should be helped to get on its feet.
PS - I can't believe the person that went here and wrote a review not about the killing fields, but about getting some dust in their hair and face on the way.
