We felt we should visit, but was very sad and upset by the bones just laying around. It should be remembered and is part of the history but I find it difficult to deal with as the Cambodians are the nicest people you could ever wish to meet - nothing is too much trouble.

We went to Choeung Ek (Killing Fields) with our tour guide who told us stories of almost every area we went to in the killing fields. Listening to him was depressing, as he slowly unveiled stories behind their dark past. The events that happened were so brutal -- almost unbearable -- that you can almost smell the remorse in the air. Everybody remained quiet in their disbelief. While visitors can listen to the story through portable earpieces, we had ours through our tour guide, and it was nothing less than heartbreaking. Visiting this place gives you a bigger heart for the nation, which is now rebuilding itself in the best way it possibly can.

We should not ignore or try to change history so we visited the Killing Fields with sadness in our hearts. The simple story is told with exhibits and signs at the actual site of this field. (There are many killing fields throughout Cambodia). The free soundtrack you get with your admission fee is excellent and brings the story to life. Told with dignity and calmness it brings tears to your eyes. Highly recommended.

I would recommend this to anyone interested in learning about the history of Cambodia. It is heavy to take in, but it is real and deserves awareness and respect paid to visit. The audio tour provides the facts necessary for visitors to understand the tragedy that went on here, as well as in many other places across the country, not too long ago. The audio recommends walking along the lake and listening to some of the personal stories of victims and survivors and this I would recommend taking the time to do as it paints the picture just a bit more clearer. About 1-1.5 hours here will take you through the tour. A must visit in PP and can be combined with a visit to S-21 as it is not too far away.

Went there with my husband and two kids. Luckily they are too Young to understand English so we could decide how Much we told Them. But still it was brutal with bones sticking out of the ground and all the skulls. The audioguide is really Well done. We skipped S21 afterwards, we were too shaken! But I AM glad I went, it is very educational.
