Owner description: These were the execution grounds for the Khmer Rouge.

The memorial at Choeung Ek portrays the darkest part or Cambodia's history with an appropriate measure of reality and dignity. The audio guide, included in the entrance fee, explains what happened at Choeng Ek but also provides the historical context and personal stories from survivors of the Khmer Rouge Era. The museum is small but clearly laid out and helps to further understand what's shown on the tour.

I feel uncomfortable thinking of Choeng Ek as a 'tourist attraction' and I found the visit disturbing. Nonetheless, if you want to understand what Cambodia has been through in very recent history you absolutely have to go.

A very peaceful and beautiful orchard with a disturbing history as the site of some of the mass killings of Pol Pot's rule. The entry fee includes an audio tape guide which has insights into the events which unfolded here as well as witness testimonies of both prisoners and soldiers. A disturbing but unmissable insight into Cambodian recent history.

I am a sensitive person and was shattered by visiting the killing fields. This is not for everyone but is recommended if you can gather the courage. It truly brings home the horror that was Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge.

Done so well with the audio's, so you can wander around on your own taking it all in. Horrendous what was done in this lovely field.

This was a real eye opener. Of course, I knew about the killing fields and had seen the movie entitled "The Killing Fields" but it was incredible to see them in real life. Shame on Pol Pot and all who supported him.
