“One of the Nicest Hotels I've ever stayed at”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2013

I have stayed at the Amanjaya Hotel many times and I always look forward to my visits here. The hotel is small and does lack a swimming pool, but it makes up for this by having an excellent restaurant and wonderful roof top bar for evening drinks. The rooms are large and spacious, the bathrooms are spa-like and I have always found them very comfortable. I have always found the staff very helpful and friendly. I always prefer hotels with character and the Amanjaya has bags of it. I know some commentators complain about the lack of a buffet breakfast but I always prefer food cooked to order and have always really enjoyed the breakfasts - the chefs know how to poach eggs properly! I do not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others.

This is a good hotel at a wonderful location.

Lobby: there is nothing like lobby area here. You enter the hotel and the reception is 10 steps away.
Location: very well located, in front of the river, practically everything available at walking distance - convenience store, bars, restaurants, massage.
Rooms: very well appointed and spacious rooms with wooden flooring. Night time lighting is a problem as light is not enough. Room and a balcony which is provided with 2 chairs and a table.
Bathroom: very spacious..separate bath tub and bathing area. Well stocked toiletries. Commode is placed in a very small area and if you tall and well built it can be a bit problematic.
Very good and helpful staff.
Free wifi in rooms as well as the attached restaurant.
Hotel has a restaurant K WEST attached to it which serves really good food.
On the top floor of the hotel is LE MOON - open air bar. This bar is amazing.....nice ambience, wonderful view.

Flip side:
The TV is place inside a cupboard in such a way that you cannot watch it lying on the bed and even if you want to watch it sitting on sofa the view would not be clear. I could not really understand this.
Its too expensive.
No SPA/Massage
No fitness centre.
Though breakfast is included, the choice is very very limited and is not served as buffet.

Room Tip: if you love peace, do not take rooms facing the street as it can be too noisy until late in the nigh...

I have made numerous trips to phnom penh over the last 7 years and stayed at a variety of the better hotels and I have to say the amanjaya takes some beating , when I have stayed at Raffles you feel cut off from the hustle and bustle of the city, the amanjayas rooms and decor are vastly superior to any of the others although it does lack a pool and I always feel a bit cheated if I dont get a buffet breakfast but overall , its my favourite place to stay in the city.

The first hotel I stayed in when I arrived in Cambodia was the Amanjaya. After three months of guesthouse living, I promised myself the last hotel I would stay in Cambodia would be the Amanjaya. I was not disappointed. Upon arrival on 26 April I was upgraded to the Panorama Suite on the third floor. The view is spectacular and the room spacious. The only downside is the noise from the Le Moon Terrace Bar above when the staff are preparing or cleaning the area. The scraping of furniture late at night and early in the morning is not good. I hosted an important business meeting in my room. Reception were superb in their directing my guests and providing extra resources for refreshments. The Amanjaya is an excellent way to be introduced to Cambodia and a great vantage point to watch the hustle and bustle of the city, the Riverside activities and the calming effects of the Tonie Sap River.

Room Tip: A Junior Suite overlooking the Riverside.

Ideally situated to explore Phnom Penh - next to the river, full of hustle and bustle - no the place for a quiet retreat. The atmosphere is relaxed but professional and the cocktail bar on the rood is a great place to end the day. We can thoroughly recommend room 22

Room Tip: We stayed in 22 which covers a corner of the second floor. A nicely furnished room

We stayed 2 nights in the Amanjaya hotel in April. The location is great and all the important sites in Phnom Penh are in walking distance. I don't think that there are any better locations to stay in Phnom Penh.

The hotel is good, though there is still a lot of room for improvement. I was hesitating between a 3 or 4 rating. The check in is efficient though there is no airconditioning in the corridors and in the elevator. With the heath, corridors and elevator is 50 degrees celsius plus. Leaving your room to go outside is like passing through a stinky, stuffy, sauna. Elevator is even worse. The 1 to 2 minute walk leaves you totally in sweat and with lack of oxygen.

We were in a nice suite on the first floor (17). The room is very spacious and the decoration is local and looks nice. Though, a lot of things are broken (like the bathroom door, handle is missing, shower door hanging because the screws are missing, the door of the minibar cannot be closed, etc, etc., stains are everywhere. Why do they not fix these things ? It would take me 30 minutes and 1 screwdriver to handle it....

Though, the hotel also has a lot of very positive elements :

* room is very spacious with a nice terrace and view on the royal palace and river
* free very fast internet and a nice big flatscreen television with a very good choice of programs
* an excellent roof top bar (probably the best bar in Phnom Penh)
* location !
* breakfast is very nice.

The room was spacious, clean and full of character. It had a small balcony with a table and chairs overlooking the river, temple and road but it was just too hot to want to sit outside. The air con was efficient and the room comfortable with easy chairs and a couch. The bathroom was large and spotlessly clean. Although we overlooked the road we were not disturbed by any traffic noise. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We reported a smoke alarm battery bleeping in the corridor outside our room and it was fixed within the hour. Nice bar on the roof with views over the river. Short walk to a variety of restaurants. Overall we were pleased with this hotel.
