I had booked this hotel in hope of watching the Water Festival in Nov 2012. Alas that was cancelled. For location, there is probably no better hotel in Phnom Penh. The view over Tonle Sap is as good as it gets, and everything is very close. I guess I had the best room in the hotel, but the location was not good enough to stay. I had to cut my stay there and move to another hotel. The corridors are not airconditioned, an unusual first impression of a hotel in a 5-star location, and smoking is allowed in parts of the restaurant, which of course stinks everywhere in the room. Then to see men walk into the restaurant with two prostitutes on each arm was the last straw. The location is brilliant. The staff and food are excellent, but to allow smoking and the sex trade to be on these premises is not on. Not for a hotel that should be 5-star. The quality of the rooms etc... are also good, but where's the air-conditioning in the passage ways? It could be greatly improved this hotel. Oh, and the wi-fi was next to useless. This too needs to be greatly improved.

Room Tip: Ask if they allow smoking and sex trade workers anywhere on the premises before booking. Other than...

Arrived 2 days ago midnight after over 30 hours of travelling, after being shown to our nice room to get some much needed sleep woke at 3 in the morning because of the heat caused by the room aircon unit packing in. Phoned reception and were able to prowl the heated corridors to another room. Next day told our original room could not be fixed so we had to spend time again shifting all our gear into a third room.

Thankfully this room has been OK for the rest of our stay and the hotel has funtioned satisfactoraly for us, though have to say the heat in the stairwells and lift is intense.

Overall wouldn't rate this hotel as highly as some other reviewers, even with our negative experience. If all had gone OK with our initial rooming I would say the hotel is OK but not particularly outstanding.

Room Tip: Check aircon before accepting room! Wat view room also gives river veiws and traffic watching is fu...

We had a junior suite and I think all the rooms are a similar size. Our room had a balcony and a great view of the Mekong and Royal Palace. The rooms are spacious and light with larger than average bathroom. Staff were friendly and efficient and cleanliness and room service was excellent. A lively rooftop bar with great views of the Mekong make this a perfect retreat from the frenetic pace of Pnhom Phen. Breakfast was the best we sampled throughout our trip.

Room Tip: 2nd floor, balcony, overlooking Mekong and Royal Palace

Hotel Amanjaya is perfectly situated by the water in Phnom Penh. You are welcomed into an attractive foyer and ushered up to larrge, well appointed and attractive rooms, which ate perfectly maintained. Balconies overlook the water, which runs into/out of the Mekong River according to the season You may also bespliced in addition, overlooking the grand Wat Ounalom. Dining areas are excellent, as is the food and service at all hours. Taxis and tuk-tuks wait outside. Markets, dining facilities and boat trips at your doorstep.
One reservation - I paid the same roomrate for a single as did my friends for a double

Room Tip: Request front for total water view. Side for water, wat and colour and movement

Stayed at this hotel from the 7/9/12 to 11/9/12 It is listed as a 4 star hotel. The location of the hotel is excellent, it is beside the Silver Pagoda and just beyond that is the Royal palace. During our stay our room was on the first floor facing the Silver pagoda. The room was of a very high standard, and extreemly long. the bed was enormous, and the bathroom was well designed, having both a shower and a bath. Room service was very good. The dining room was in the bar and smoking was permitted at the top of the dining room. The reception was very small and compacted. renovations were going on during our stay, and the lift was not in use.Food and service was good, but I was surprised at this hotel being listed as 4 star.

Another great stay at this fine Hotel. If its a view you want this is the place as well as the caring service that is always provided. The location is ideal for getting around town and very close to the water where you can sit and watch all day the action with the boat traffic. A cool drink on your private balcony on a warm day is recommended as a great way to pass the time.

Room Tip: Book a Panoramic Room , you won't be disappointed and the size of the suite is amazing.

I also stayed at amanjaya during the period when the elevator was being repaired. It was not that much of an inconvenience for us since we were placed on the second floor. What disappointed me was the service. I am shocked to read some of the positive feedbacks from guests below on the service!!! I can list two incidents I was not too happy about. 1. Called the front desk for a wake up call. Answered by a rude staff who replied "yeah yeah" and then hung up. Since I was on the second floor, I went down to see who that was. Turned out she was busy on the phone, obviously with her friend and not a client. 2. First day breakfast - greeted by two grumpy waitresses. A total 180 degree change from what we experienced in Siem Reap at our hotel! Second day was better, probably because we left $1 usd tip on the first day.
Other than that, the location is good. Rooms were not spotless but acceptable. It did seem like an old hotel. Don't understand why they need to keep a statue head smiling and overlooking your bed while you sleep. Creepy. We requested for it to be removed and apparently this was not uncommon! Probably will not come back if I visit Phnom Penh again.
