My family and I chose to stay in Safari Hotel after much selection through Agoda. We took a tuk tuk from the airport and upon arrival at the hotel, we were warmly welcome by 2 brothers at the reception counter.. They were helpful and gave us useful information on getting around Phnom Penh. Since our arrival was early in the morning, we are able to put our luggage in their care and upon return from our tour, we are given our room keys with all our bags already in our rooms. My bookings are a double bed room and a 3 bedded room.. Since they do not have a 3 bedded room available at that time , my children were given a 2 bedded queen size bed. I had my 1st Khemer delicious lunch in this simple hotel cafe. The rooms were clean and spacious. For the price paid, this hotel is worth for money... I would sincerely highly recommend this hotel for its simplicity, affordable and warm hospitality.. We really enjoyed our stay and the guests in the hotels are also very friendly.. we made many friends here! However, I really hope they will fix a mirror in the room for us ladies..:)

Room Tip: Nothing to boast on the window scenery but all the rooms are clean and have all the necessity amenit...

After getting dropped off 6 km from the city centre by our dodgy bus from Laos at one in the morning, then having to pay $20 for a tuk-tuk to a "very cheap" guesthouse where the driver got kickbacks, I was exhausted and not thinking clearly. The Safari looked nice from the outside and, at first appearances, the room looked ok, but after I unpacked a bit, I started to notice the room was not that clean. In fact, it was disgusting as it had obviously not been cleaned at all since the last guest, including the bedding (gross!) I went downstairs to ask for a clean room, and they showed me one on the ground floor that smelt like the sewer had backed up. In short, I managed to cajole the desk guy to give me clean pillows and a duvet, rolled myself up and grabbed a few hours of sleep. Left first thing in the morning.

Happy to have found this clean hotel with nice lobby and got the price down to $18 per night. Rooms were clean and cleaned each day. Overall was pleasant to an extend.

cons: the staff wanted us to prepay all three nights upfront which is something we have never been asked to do. It is usually pay per night or all at the end. We insisted on paying the first night only, then pay the rest at the end. Furthermore, they kept our actual passport even aftermaking a photo copy. We asked for the real one back but the insisted they would hold on to it safely.

At some point during cleaning of our room my contact lense case went missing. A small knick knack that is worthless, but yet was blatantly taken out of the bathroom.

Upon checkout the clerk was far more interested in booking us an expensive taxi (with kickbacks) than completing the checkout process. They neglected to return our passport back and we overlooked it too bc we were not used to leaving it at the front desk. We went all the way to the airport and realized we had forgotten it. When I called to alert them to this and that our flight was leaving in less than 2 hours (40 min drive back to hotel, 40 mins back). They were unapologietic and when I suggested they pay for our return taxi he pretended he did not understand my english.

Overall this hotel was more interested in cyphoning money from customers and booking expensive taxis than our overall satisfaction.

Room Tip: Beware of the things I have mentioned and stay on your toes. Do not leave your passport at the desk...

Having stayed in many different hotels around the world, on first impressions this hotel seems good, and pretty reasonable. The rooms are big, if a bit impersonal, and the foyer/ outdoor area is nice. However, not only do the staff turn a blind eye to the continuous seedy goings on, the reception staff actively encouraged my husband to buy a cambodian lady for the night, as soon as I had left! I had to leave 2 days earlier than him, and upon his return from dropping me at the airport they immediately offered him a prostitute. Im a pretty liberal person, but when the hotel reception staff are acting as pimps, even I find this pretty shocking!! Also, the cambodian food was pretty rubbish - much better place right next door, and if this wasn't all bad enough, what adds insult to injury was that they literally serve the WORST coffee in the world!!!!!! Im honestly not sure if it even was coffee, never tasted anything quite like it!

Been there for a few day 2 Sunday and Monday night, the rooms are quite the staff is super friendly and helped a lot with directions and suggestions !
The hotel it self should be upgraded coz the rooms don't match the location !
Rooms are empty feel unfinished and are poorly decorated if decorated at all !
Windows are very low quality and don't even close easy but surely they open easy !
Anyhow nothing happened and everything has been made pleasant by the staff !

Room Tip: Stay above the 1st floor and try to have a number ending with 1

There's nothing fantastic about this hotel but there's also not much wrong with it.
Moved here after a poor experience at another hotel in Phnom Penh.
Have rated it 4 stars in my review as this is its first review on Trip Advisor. It's better than average but doesn't quite make the very good stage at its price point so hence the title of the review. So lets focus on the positives.
It is located very close to the main market, it's got reasonable wifi. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Paid $25 which did not include breakfast. It is perhaps a tad overpriced but I did not have any major complaints so will go with a 4 star rating.
The reception staff were helpful, there's perhaps better value hotels nearby, but as I stated I did not have any complaints during my stay here so 4 stars it is.
