“Nice chic boutique hotel”
Reviewed February 2, 2014 via mobile

Good location, good decoration, good staff, good food, excellent pool, nothing to complain but to remember the outstanding (tiny) rooftop pool! (Don't book any services / travel from front desk, it s not their core job and u ll pay THE price)

Decided to stay here to treat ourselves after my boyfriend had been ill for days in a shabby Phnom Penh hotel with no windows! Great choice of stay. Welcome drinks and cold towel on arrival. Room was beautiful. The shower was one of the best we've ever had in SE Asia. The pool was exactly what we wanted. Great to be able to relax by the pool in the middle of the hectic city. Bar food and drinks are somewhat overpriced ($2.50 for a small bottle of water!). Breakfast is good. Staff in the upstairs bar were always excellent. My biggest negative is that my attempts to get in touch with the hotel on MULTIPLE occasions asking about a ring I may have left in the room went completely unanswered and blatantly ignored which, for a hotel that is definitely trying to position itself as upmarket, is just not acceptable. Don't think it's fair to let this impact my rating as its not a common occurrence but a little acknowledgement (ring found or not found) would have been nice.

This is one of those properties that you have mixed feelings about reviewing. There is nothing really wrong with the property, but if you expected more then you might be disappointed. There isn't much that you can really recommend that they can do to improve it simply because the design and location of the property is what it is. Let me start by saying that I would definitely stay at this property again.

If this is your first trip to Phnom Penh, you might be surprised when you get to the location. This was not my first trip so I had some idea of what to expect. The property is indeed an urban resort. Wasn't sure what that meant until I arrived at the street/lane where the property is situated. So it is down a relatively narrow lane with a bunch of other small shops/groceries. At first you might wonder if you made a bad decision. Once you actually enter the property you will breath a sigh of relief. It is consistent with just about most of the boutique hotel design in Phnom Penh--exotic, solid concrete everything, a tropical feel and exceptionally friendly staff.

As everyone has noted the highlight of the property is the infinity pool on the roof! Not so much because you get to swim, it is just a really cool area to hang out and have a drink or a meal while looking over Phnom Penh watching the sun set or rise. In fact, I probably hung out there more than I did in my room because it was easy to read from there or or catch up some work. Dinner and breakfast is served in this area. The breakfast as most have indicated isn't much to write home about. It is worth having dinner here at least once. A few good items on the menu and the staff is really friendly and most of them speak English,

The rooms are very clean and nice in terms of the appearance. The AC works well, I had no issue with the hot water, and wifi is great in the room. However, the rooms are indeed very small as others have noted. If you simply need a really nice place to lay your head at night and not hang out in the room, then this is great! Since this is an urban retreat, you will get a fair amount of noise from the surrounding area. There was some construction work going on in an adjacent property which started at around 8:00 am each morning during my stay. It was a bit noisy and looks like it might continue for a couple more months. I would suggest checking with the property before making your reservation if you can't sleep through noise. I would image that most of the noise that you experience while staying at this property, would be similar to most of the boutique hotels in the larger area. So there isn't much that can be done but just accept that it is a part of the urban fabric of this area.

I tried the spa while I was here and was very pleased with the service. I have tried other spas in Phnom Penh and would rank this one fairly high in terms of the level of services. The price was very reasonable and is inline with other high end spas in the area and the level of service that you received. I would use it repeatedly if I stay at this property again.

All and all this was a nice property. I would stay here again in the future knowing what I now know.

AS a regular to Phnom Penh I chose this hotel to stay in as had drank at the bar before and loved the pool so had decided to give staying there a shot. The room was very clean but also very small and only had a single bed. Was only me staying but can't remember last time I stayed in a single bed in a boutique hotel in Asia normal its a double even when the room is for one person. Also there was very little hot water in the shower. After a minute or two the shower starts running cold which really is not acceptable for a hotel like this. On the plus side the wifi was fast and never any problems with it, the staff were very very friendly and helpful and I really didnt find it noisy at all. A very pleasent enviroment overall. Really think though that you are paying for the pool in this place maybe use the bar and go there for sunset but look else where for more spacious rooms

From the glowing reviews on TA I was expecting more from this hotel, which I stayed in for a week in January of 2014. It's not that anything is particularly bad...it's just that it doesn't really stand out from any of the many myriad hotels in Phnom Penh in this price range. So, to start out with the positives, it is centrally located in the BKK1 area of town if that's where you want to stay; the staff, like at most PP hotels, is friendly, courteous, and helpful; the Khmer modern decor language is nice; and the roof-top pool is nice (even though I didn't use it because of the chilly January temperatures).

Now to the not so good. As to the location, there is a school adjacent to the hotel and this produced noise during the daytime. In addition, there is a small outdoor cafe-pub, not affiliated with the hotel, next door and they often play loud music late into the nite. This is particularly a problem if your room is on the eastern side of the building. The breakfast is nothing special, consisting of a small selection of fruits, cereals, a salad bar, and breads. You can also select an egg dish or an Asian theme breakfast entrée. Weak coffee/tea from a pot is also on offer. Honestly, if it wasn't included in the price, I'd rather go out for breakfast as there's a plethora of dining options nearby. As to the rooms, they are fine as they go but are rather small for the price.

My final demerit is that the noise levels in the hotel are very high. These are not outside noises of the kids/bar penetrating inside but internal guest/staff/utility noises. All the flooring services are hard so noises reverberate throughout the hallways. People walking and talking in the hallways are easily heard in the rooms. In addition, the wall must be very thin as noise from adjacent rooms is easily heard...I'm only thankful neither of my neighbors were honeymooners! Also, water noise from the incoming and outgoing plumbing stacks permeates the rooms as well. All these noises throughout the day make for a rather noisy environment not conducive to relax action.

There are allot of hotel options in this price range and I would advise my fellow travelers to make a through search of your options before making a decision.

It is now becoming very easy to find good mid-range hotels in Phnom Penh so if a hotel here wishes to compete it needs good friendly staff, clean rooms and a great breakfast. Without those three things as a good foundation then it will be difficult to last long. The PHaUR tick the three boxes and we had a great few days there at the start of my six weeks in Cambodia.
As everyone has noted the rooftop pool is great and really makes the hotel, the staff are good and friendly (it is a new hotel some polish may be required but that is a tiny criticism, every new hotel needs time to mature). Loved the breakfast.
The location is OK but maybe a little difficult to find but it is almost opposite the KTM shop.
A recommended stay.

This place has the most amazing rooftop pool! Great place to chill and take in the sunshine after a long day out exploring. The rooms were nice but compact.
The staff were lovely and always keen to help. We ate in the restaurant a few times and loved the tapas style food. Breakfast was pretty yummy too. The hotel location isn't that easy to find for tuk tuk drivers so always take the address/map details with you just incase. However once located it's very easy to get to anywhere you want and is a short drive to the Russian Markets and easy to get onto the motorway for The Killing Fields, which is a must see! I loved the hotel as it was a great retreat when the crazy busy nature of Phnom Pehn took it's toll. We were happy to stay in the restaurant and drink wine on the rooftop. I'd definitely recommend staying at Patio, it's a gem!
