“One of the top two places I have eaten in Cambodia”

This little gem is a hole in the wall hideaway. The owner does not speak English, I don't speak French, but it doesn't matter. The menu is simple to understand and written out on a chalk board. The service was lovely, the food superb and the ambience was excellent. All of the other diners there were French and the owner came out to speak to everyone, even me, though our conversation was short!

Loved the place. Going back there tonight. Great steak at a fraction of the cost of a place like Van's. The mouse at the end was also fantastic. If you are a couple, small group or dining alone please try this place. You won't be sorry.

“Still the best snails from France ...”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

... and still no aircon! :-(
Came again for dinner. Enjoyed 4 dishes with friends - all of them absolutely delicious. Really enjoyed the kampot pepper sauce with the steak and the delicious escragots.

“Wonderful French meal tucked away on St 15”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

We had dinner at Chez Gaston for my husband's birthday. The menu and setting were simple but left nothing to be desired. The service was prompt and very friendly; towards the end of the meal the owner arrived and gave us a free digestif and also offered a complimentary dessert (they even sang happy birthday!). Everything we ordered was delicious and came in generous portions. In all, I found it was better value and quieter than some other spots in town where we've had similar fare. We will definitely be back!

“Expensive but authentic french food”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

This was the most expensive meal I had in Cambodia. It cost around 50 usd for me and one other friend without ordering any wine to go along with my main course. The restaurant is quite difficult to find with the placement on trip advisor being wildly inaccurate. Walk further south by 2 streets and you would hopefully see this small restaurant.

This place attracts mainly a clientele of French people, with the menu written only in French. The chef was quite a nice man and he does speak some English. Like any good French restaurant, the chef was very willing to give recommendations.

The restaurant does not accept credit card payment, so do bring along sufficient cash. Overall, I think the food was not too impressive, and for a third-world country like Cambodia, this is definitely slightly over-priced.

“Fantastic French Bistro a hidden gem”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

Off the beaten track but good easy to find central city location this hidden gem is well worth seeking out. I Don't understand( believe) the comments about the owner. He is friendly as are his staff both willing & able to assist us 2 non french speaker's though their menu and wine selection. We had escargot , beef cheek casserole and beef fillet and a nice bottle of Côtes du Rhône. Both food and wine's are well priced, we both enjoyed our meal here and will return soon.
