“Nice Decor Nice Price Friendly Staff”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

Mondulkiri hotel was a good find because I was kind of hesitant. This place seemed to be new so it was pretty clean. The staff understood and spoke english well. not to far from the busy shops...15-20 min walk. Tuk Tuk was available whenever i needed one. For the value i would definitely stay here again. They included free breakfast during my stay. I love Free!!

the hotel is nothing special, but absolutely fine, once you find it. It's not where the hotel website, tripadvisor, expedia or google says it is, but another 15 mins walk away from the river in a really rather insalubrious area of town. the walk to anything you would want to go to is hot and dusty and filled with motorbikes. it really gave us an unpleasant first impression of phnom penh, which is actually a lovely town. rooms are clean, staff are fine, the layouts are a bit odd - we stayed in a couple of different rooms, and they all seem to have multiple 1.5 person beds rather than doubles which isn't particularly cosy, but fine for sharers looking for a reasonable place to stay.

Room Tip: Åway from the front of the street which can get very noisy especially at 5-6am

We stayed here for 3 nights and found it was very good value for $20 a night. There was a little trouble finding the place, even though I had the directions written down in Khmer! Might be worth writing down the address to show your driver when you arrive in Phnom Penh! The staff seemed quite miserable but were helpful enough when booking our coach to leave.

We had a large room on the third floor that had two double beds in, even though we only needed one! Very comfortable and clean beds that were remade every day. It was very clean and nicely furnished and decorated. The bathroom was lovely but the water pressure wasn't brilliant (I think this is an Asia-wide issue though). We also had a television.

The lift starts from the first floor so a bit of a problem if you have very heavy bags like we did! Our key also got stuck in the door a couple of times which was a bit annoying but nothing too problematic.

Overall we were pleased with this good quality hotel for $20.

They 'forgot' about our booking when we arrived and tried to put us in a tiny room, claiming it was a Superior King. We asked to be moved to the actual room we had paid for and booked 2 months before. We were moved to a room that was almost double the size and we were very pleased! Good location and friendly, helpful staff. Possibly a bit pricey for what you could get nearby.

The good:
Nice beds
Clean and comfortable rooms
Gym

The bad
Breakfast appalling- reheated and just awful.
Staff were friendly but spoke almost no English. We appreciate that this is Cambodia, however you cannot advertise the staff as being bi-lingual when they don't understand basic requests.
Location. We chose the hotel mainly on location and price. The location is about 500m further west on road 478 than it says on TA and on hotels.com. It is not 200 yards to the palace.

In short I cannot recommend this place. We didn't like walking back here all the time from the quay front as it took ages and the paths were bad. Again I need to stress how bad breakfast was- my gf only bothered with it once in 4 days...

Booked to stay here for 4 nights (was about the 20th place we tried because everything was booked out). After a long bus ride we arrived only to be informed that the hotel was overbooked & we would need to spend one night at their sister hotel - Mondulkiri Cafe. So we tuk tuk (at their expense) with all our luggage to the hotel. The girl on reception was very rude. We find our room that is dingy & stinking of cigarettes and stale air. And it looks like someone has hacked at the door lock. This is not what we booked & are left with a sour taste in our mouths but we suck it up and decide to go out for the afternoon. Walking past the reception area we meet two American girls who have had the exact same thing happen to them!!

Finally, we get to check in the next day but find our room very strange (level 7). No number on the door, personal items in a draw, no in room safe. We request a safe & after a long process finally get one installed. The lady on reception says it didnt have a safe because its an apartment - so they still don't have room for us & are creating make shift rooms. They even felt it necessary early one morning to drill a room number to our door!!!

Anyway, on the first night we see 3 German travelers who have booked three rooms but they only have two available....same old story - they've over booked!!!

So in short this wasn't just a scenario that happened to us. There were many guests and probably many more that didnt have their bookings forfilled because this hotel is only interested in taking any money they can get & putting their guests out.

Oh and breakfast was terrible.

on the first night, i was assigned to a double room which I like but i faced the smell issue. I was then relocated to a twin room with low WiFi signal. The issue might due to corner room. In overall, the hotel is good budgeted hotel with nice and clean rooms plus friendly and helpful staff. I would recommend for ones who look for budget rooms.

Room Tip: Room in the middle of the building (corridor) to access better WiFi.
