Description: Deco is a relaxed, stylish restaurant serving lunch, dinner and cocktails. A great place to have a business lunch, dinner with friends or just pop in for a drink. Using local products as much possible, Deco is creating inventive European food with an Asian touch running through the menu. From house cured salmon and kampot crab cakes to slow cooked steaks and home made burgers. We aim to raise the bar of European food in Phnom Penh while still keeping the price affordable. The lounge area at Deco is the perfect place to sip one of our delicious cocktails before or after dinner, or perhaps hang out with friends over a bottle of wine from our extensive list.

“A Last Minute Choice But Quite Good”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

My friend and I planned to walk to a place close to our hotel but he saw Deco on TA so we went. We tend to eat early so we had no problem with no reservation as their crowd starts later. The design is quite elegant and nicely appointed with only about 8-10 tables inside & several more outside in a building that appeared to be relatively new.

The service was immediately attentive and very professional especially by a young lady who was a university student/graduate and spoke English very well. For Phnom Penh, I would say the service was extraordinary.

The menu is presented on a plain brown paper sheet which also serves as the placemat. There are only about 6 starters and 8 mains with also some side dishes. We both started with the Kampot (apparently the region of Cambodia known for its crab meat) Crab Cakes w/sherry mayonnaise. They were ok but the crab meat was not a highlight in the taste (too much filler?) and it could have used some heat in the sherry mayo which was only painted across the plate for presentation purposes.

My friend was not hungry so he had a second starter of Whiskey Cured Salmon w/honey mustard and rye bread as his main---OK. I had the Poached Rockfish served on a bed of Crushed Potatoes (just short of being mashed) and topped by a Herb Salad & Sauce---this was excellent, perfectly poached and presented. A side of poached/sautéed spinach was also perfect.

We brought our own special wine and there was a $10 corkage charge.

We shared a dessert of Sticky Toffee Pudding. It had distinctive flavor but I can't tell you whether it was banana or liqueur or something else but it was absolutely delicious.

At $40 for food only and without the corkage, it is on the high side for PP but it was a very good experience for our last dinner in PP.

Congratulations to the ownership for its very well trained service staff---the best for our meals this trip.

“7 out of 10”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

I would give this a 7 out of 10. Its a restaurant with about 8 tables and a small bar. The food was above average and comfort style food; Steaks, burgers, pork chops etc they were all good and I guess this place is good if you are bored of the Asian food and want a taste of Europe. It serves a cause and I can see the charm. The cocktails were great and on the night I was there there was a cocktail lecture going on, seems they have a passion for what they do. I wouldn't write home about it but I would go back as it had a fun atmosphere

“Simple yet Classy”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

We went here after hearing good things from fellow guest at the hotel. Deco was easy to find and was very pretty. The welcoming was great and we sat on the terrace as inside was full, but it was not hot and they brought us a fan to keep us cool.
I had the cured salmon with black bread which was full of flavour and was cut thick Scandinavian style. My Friend had the mini Scotch eggs which were quail eggs softly boiled covered in sausage meat and deep fried. We had never had them before but apparently they are very English!
For Entrees we had the Hanging tender or Onglet and the chicken with Onion Puree. Both were simple and well executed and came with a choice of sides!
For dessert we ordered the Chocolate pudding, it was actually a chocolate fondant they may want to change the name as its misleading, but it was perfectly runny inside and came with an ice-cream.
Great dinner out for around $30 per head.

“Not fish, not meat”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

This is one these really likable places that is very hard to review. It's a nice restaurant with good service. The menu is small and interesting, the wine list is decent and affordable.
So far, so good. Unfortunately, the food didn't come anywhere close to greatness. None of it was bad either, it was just so unremarkable.
The crab cakes were just alright, tasty, but i've had much better. The whisky-cured salmon consisted of three small slices of good, but ordinary tasting, smoked salmon and a slice of pumpernickel. Nothing wrong with it, but no need to go to a restaurant to eat that.
The slowly cooked beef was generous, but slightly tough, could have easily been slowly cooked for another two hours.
The bill came to 30$ with a glass of wine, which is neiher cheap nor expensive for Phnom Penh, so all in all, it's all average really.
