The Golden Gate Hotel is a place for staying a couple of nights only if you are on business in Phnom Penh - it is not luxurious nor modern, and although it is reasonably priced, it is not outstanding value. This is not a place for unwinding and relaxing.
My son and I stayed here on July 2014 - in the building with the lift. Unfortunately the room was very noisy - the aircon compressor and the mini-fridge were old and sounded like a maintenance service was in desperate need. The toilet was in disrepair and the beds were very hard and uncomfortable.
The included breakfast is not very tasty - if you don't have it included in your room, do yourself a favour and have breakfast elsewhere.
It's only saving feature is that it's located in a centric area of Phnom Penh, close to the Independence Monument - a 2-dollar bike ride away from everything in the city. It's also near a couple of late-night bars and restaurants - so it's possible to walk back to the room after dinner.More
