If you've been to other palaces in Asia, you come here with high expectations. Once you're on grounds, they're immediately dashed. There are absolutely NO explanations of anything other than a few items in the exhibit halls outside of the palace grounds. Many of the buildings are closed or roped off. If you don't hire a guide, there's not much to get out of the visit. And when it's hot outside, there's not much shelter from the sun if you decide to visit during the afternoon hours. For $6.50, we felt a bit jaded for what we got.

The buildings were elegant and nicely placed. The building where the King received honorary guests were awesome. The pagoda was very nice too...

This is a very typical palace as could be found in anywhere else, nothing special. Given the ticket entry to The Killing field only 6 USD with audio guide and the ticket entry to Tuol Sleng only 2 USD, a 6.5 USD ticket WITHOUT audio guide is quite expensive. Not recommended especially in the middle of like 40 degree celcius heat. The access to silver pagoda helps a bit, though.
