A beautiful and ornate palace. I was very interested to find out that the current Prince lives there. It's a wonderful contrast to downtown Phnom Penh.

First, the palace is not very grand or majestic, compared to the sultanate palaces in my country. However, what make the palace special is, the king opens it to the public. That will not ever happen in my country.

Visiting the palace, what we really looked at was the fine Khmer architecture. The entrance fee for Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda is around USD6 with extra USD2 for a camera. However, we brought our camera in with no charge, although we had shown it to the counter. The opening hours are from 7:30 - 11 am, and 2 - 5 pm. Be aware that the palace guards need a lunch break of 3 hours, and the throne room, Silver Pagoda, and the Golden Buddha is closed to visitors during the extraordinary long lunch break. Worth it or not? I should say yes. However, in my opinion, you should visit Tuol Sleng Museum and Choeung Ek Killing Field first, before consider visiting the Royal Palace.

Additional unforgettable experience. I was trapped with my wife in the palace by flash flood after an hour of down pour. So, please keep an eye on the water level, just in case of rain fall during your visit.

A great one time visit. You get a glimpse of how the living and past Royal Family live. Contrary to the poverty just out side the gates of the Royal Palace.

The historical murals painted on the insides are worth the visit alone. Great Cambodia artifacts for viewing.

Warning.... Girls, you need to wear shorts below the knees or you will not be admitted in the Royal Place. If you where shorts you will have to rent a wrap/skirt.

Sadly we weren't able to visit the palace again as the late King was lying in state and will be for the next three months. However we looked again from the outside which is also a splendid sight and remembered our previous visit.
