“Phnom Penh's Most Exclusive Hotel”
Reviewed January 24, 2008

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights, May 6th to 10th 2007. It's a great hotel with all the accomodations you would need. I had a great big room on the third floor. The room was clean and functional with a big bathroom. The A.C. worked good all the time. The electronic room safe is always a big plus. The business center internet was reasonably priced, located in the basement, near the gym. Very helpful staff. Breakfast was included in the price of the room, which was $ 80 U.S.D. per night. This hotel is centrally located, just about two blocks from Sisowath Quay(road) which runs parallel to the Tonle Sap river.
Directly behind the hotel is Wat Phnom, a temple built on a mound of earth. At the temple you can find "Sambo" the elephant, and you can ride him around the temple grounds. If you don't want to ride him, you can view him at quiting time each evening, when his handlers take him home, and walk him down along the Tonle Sap river on Sisowath Quay road. Take a picture.
One important fact that no other review has mentioned, this hotel is directly across the street from the new, mordern, U.S. Embassy. Other Embassy's are nearby also, the British and French. The City Hall, Post Office, and Library are all in the neighborhood too. Two blocks down the street is the Raffle Le Royal hotel. Everybody just call's it the "Le Royal" like your just suppose to know that it is a Raffles. The Sunway reastaurant is a great place for your meals. But, if you want a real fantastic treat, go for Sunday Brunch at Raffles Le Royal. For 18 U.S.D. you will have the best breakfast in Cambodia, you do not have to be a guest, at Raffles, just walk in off the street like I did. I will definately return to the Sunway hotel whenever I return to Phnom Penh.

Phnom penh, Sunway hotel
Date: Dec. 2, 2007
Reviewer: a TripAdvisor member
Stayed 2 nights at this hotel in november 2007. Very good hotel in a quiet and green setting and next to Wat Phnom. A business hotel, but good for tourists too. Very helpfull. On walking distance from the river and the royal palace and the central market. For a visit to Tuol Sleng museum or the russian market, you have to take a tuktuk or taxi. No swimmingpool, but a wellness center. Only a pitty is that there is no jaccuzi in the wellness center for women, there is only one in this for men. Good breakfast buffet. Should stay there again.

Some say that this is an hotel for business people but I found few business people there but several tour groups. But they cope with all this very well and everything is as you would expect from a hotel of this standing (unless you want a pool or gardens to sit in) and well up to international standards. The staff were particularly pleasant, especially in the restaurant which offers an excellent buffet lunchtime and dinner time, in addition to the a la carte menu. It is also excellently situated. When I return to Phnom Penh I won't bother looking for anything esle. But do check what rates you are offered - they seem to differ a lot between one Internet booker and another and from the hotel itself - look around a bit.

This hotel is gorgeous. As soon as you enter the cool and classy lobby area it is a welcome retreat from the hussle and bustle of phnom penh!!

Rooms are spacious, very clean and modern.

The buffett is the best i have ever seen. I dont normally do buffetts but everything was to a very high standard. Beautifully presented and very much appreciated!!

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough!!

The sunway hotel in Phnom Penh is quite a nice hotel, though one major part I thought was missing, they do not have a pool! The service was really good, the restaurant was good value and they served up a nice breakfast. There is also a bar with lounges and pool table which was nice and a gift shop.

The location was not the best though. It was not really walkable to anything, lukily tuk tuk's are inexpensive in the city to get to the markets during the day and waterfront of Mekong River at night. It really depends what you are in Phnom Penh for I suppose. If I were to go back I would probably stay coser to the Mekong Riverfront so we could walk to dinner and shops etc..

Overall, a clean and comfortable hotel with good facilities but I think it is aimed more towards business travel than leisure.

We booked a one night stay through Expedia at the Sunway hotel in March 2007. Received our online and email confirmation immediately. Upon arrival at the Sunway, we were told that our reservation was not in the system. Despite having our online receipt, they said that regardless of our confirmation, it was not in their system and they were completely booked. This put us in a very difficult situation as Phnom Penh does not have that many decent hotels.

The manager came out apologized. For whatever reason, the booking never went through their system. He was understanding, but unfortunately had no other rooms available. While he did help us find another rerservation down the street at the Phnom Penh Hotel, it was still unacceptable for a hotel to make such a careless booking error. Unless you book directly through this hotel, I don't recommend staying here. Go to the Phnom Penh Hotel down the street - cheaper rate and gorgeous, clean hotel!

My husband and I stayed at the Sunway, Phnom Penh, Feb. 3 to 5, 2007. This was our first time to Cambodia and it was our first hotel. Upon arrival, they immediately upgraded our reservation to a suite, without additional charge. I think they needed our old room for a block of French tourtists, but we didn't care. The suite was beautiful, with a large balcony, overlooking the new US Embassy. The room was immaculate. The hotel restaurant was a little overpriced, but they did offer a reasonable buffet option, with a large selection of items. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and my husband and I plan to stay there again should we ever return to Phnom Penh.
