We stayed here over Khmer New Year. We thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and the feeling of history. Check in was easy and dine by a manager over a drink. The smell of lemongrass oil was lovely and needed to mask the smell of the numerous smokers. We are not used to smokers and there are strict laws about smoking where we live.

Breakfast was fresh and the buffet was in small quantities which were replenished as needed. Many things were made to order. The egg station is standard in hotel buffets but the was also a pancake station, fresh fruit station, soup and noodles station.

Dear Valued Guest,

I would like to personally thank you for staying with us over Khmer New Year. We are all delighted that you enjoyed the historical ambiance of Raffles Hotel Le Royal.

Very glad that you enjoyed breakfast at Café Monivong! It is indeed our mission to provide a residential ambiance which one would find while staying in an exclusive private mansion.

The entire team at Raffles sends their best personal regards!

Especially the staff!! Thank you to Richard, the manager, who oversees the most beautiful hotel. There is something so special about the hotel. The history, the past guests, the tragedies of Cambodia - all are subtly felt! Phnom Penh is a tough city to be in but coming back to this piece of paradise, after visiting the killing fields & the incredible heat made life sweet for us. I loved walking up the old, wooden, slightly squeaky stairs. I would visit Phnom Penh, solely to stay at Raffles Le Royal & be spoilt by Richard & his staff.
They also have the best gluten-free bread!

Raffles gave us a lovely welcome, check in was relaxed and a manger came over to talk to us about our stay and help us through our itinerary as we only had a couple of days to get everything done that we wanted to see.

Our room was on raised ground floor level over looking the pool with a balcony with gorgeous wooden sliding doors.

The swimming pool area is beautiful.

The emphasis here is on customer service and they get it right, the only other hotel were I have felt this well looked after was at Le Touessrok in Mauritius.

We enjoyed happy hour in the evenings in the Elephant Bar and played pool, I do hope they make it a non smoking venue soon as it is foul.

We had a tuk tuk driver each day to explore Phnom Penh which was lovely.

I recommend a visit along the waterfront at the river, the royal palace and the Russian Market.

US dollar is widely accepted everywhere and the taxi from the airport costs $10.

I would definitely return and recommend to anyone.

The one downside is that the rooms in the hotel are relatively small. We stayed on two occasions when visiting Phnom Penh, at the start and end of the trip. Both times we were in the main building and the first room was really quite small, though there was a generous sized bathroom. The service in the hotel is excellent though. Breakfast in the case is very good, drinks in the lobby is enjoyable. I think service in the Elephant Bar is a bit hit and miss though. There is a lovely pool and also an excellent fitness centre. Oddly though you have to walk through the changing room and the spa to get to the gym. Still my favourte place to stay in Phnom Penh.

Dear Valued Guest,

I would like to sincerely thank you for staying with us at Raffles Hotel Le Royal. Due to the hotel's colonial heritage, layout and the space planning from "back then", some of our room categories are a bit smaller. We are pleased that the colonial ambiance of the building with its antique decor, accompanied with the great service provided by our colleagues, left a memorable impression with you. Thank you for your comments relating to the Elephant Bar for which I am grateful. Such feedback is always appreciated and will be reviewed with my team.

We look forward to welcoming you back "home" to your favourite place in Phnom Penh.

Kindest Regards,

I loved this hotel - I didn't want to leave! The service really is wonderful. On my last night there, the lovely waiter in the Elephant Bar (a brilliant place) came up to tell me they had some of that wine in that I liked so much - I couldn't believe he noticed. The building is absolutely breath-taking, there is a real sense of history especially since it was a base for journalists during the civil war (there is a plaque nearby to remember them). The food was exceptional and what I really loved was that a staff member sat down with me at the beginning of my stay and asked what sort of room I'd like, if I had any special requests. And the bed! So, so comfy. It is not cheap to stay here but honestly, it is an unforgettable experience.

Definitely one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in.
The managed greeted us on arrival, helped us with orientation and gave us some tips about the local area. The local staff were really friendly and accommodating. We had a lovely landmark pool view room which came with a private butler!
Delicious French toast and eggs benedict at the breakfast!
Would love to return some day.

Whilst Phnom Penh is not the greatest city in the world this hotel is one of the best in which I have stayed. From the warm greeting through the helpful concierge, the excellent restaurant staff and the wonderful people in the Elephant Bar we could not have had a better experience. It is expensive but we found everything to be of the highest quality and all our requirements seemed to be anticipated and dealt with in an exemplary manner. I would go back just to stay in the Hotel

Room Tip: Try to get in the original building
