I stayed in a 6-bed dorm with air-con, and it was very clean and cozy. You get a rather big locker, bed lined and a towel. The place has a fast wifi connection that works both in the bar/restaurant, as well as in the room. The bathrooms smelled a bit too much of the disinfectant, but it's good to know that the place is clean :) The staff is helpful with advices on what to see, and also will arrange a taxi/tuk-tuk to the airport. Additionally, the restaurant on the ground floor has super-comfy seating, though the food seemed a bit blunt (or maybe I just had a bad day). Overall - I'd surely recommend it!

We recently stayed at the Velkommen Backpackers at $5/day and per head. The room was decent and clean with fan, double deck bed, pillow, blanket and towel. The location was perfect if you are planning for a night life, a visit to the Royal Palace and many other tourist spot. Wi-fi is accessible if you are in the bar only. The only thing that was a bit uncomfortable was the smell of the room. It smells like old though the room is not old at all. After some time, its either you get used to it or the smell goes away. The staff were also courteous, just that one time we ordered for something to eat the girl said the cook was out and she said she wasn't sure if he's coming back. Good thing there are many other restaurants in the area to choose from. Another thing, they don't have a phone there so you'll have to take few steps if you need to call.

In a bud I guess it gives you the value for your money. I appreciated it because I really expected something worse.

Most of the guests there during our time were Europeans backpackers.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms in the 2nd floor, may be they don't stink.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a 6 bed a/c dorm ($6) in May. The hostel was very clean and comfortable, and well located in the backpacker district in Phnom Penh. The bar was sociable and the staff there were fun and friendly, making our stay more entertaining! Would definitely recommend as a good place to stay in this city.

Pretty cheap place to stay - around $4.50 for a dorm in a fan room. Good common area, and staff are heaps friendly. Good location

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor tend to smell a bit damp

We stayed at Velkommen for 3 nights in March (3 girls from England) in a 6 bed dorm. First of all we took advantage of the airport pickup service they offer for $9 which was great! Once we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find a great bar with comfy seats, music, tv and wifi in the lobby and were taken upstairs to our dorm (D4). The room was immaculately clean, there are personal lockers for each bed which you are given free keys to and towels and fresh linen is included in the price. The bathrooms are also modern tiled wet room style shower rooms with hot water! Honestly for the price you couldn't ask for more!
The staff are also great, ridiculously helpful and friendly!! They arranged our bus transfers and tuk tuks for sightseeing and didn't rip us off by adding their own cuts on top! Plus the hostel is in a great location, withing walking distance to
most of the main sights in the town!
Well recommended by us, we would definitely stay there again!!

We stayed here twice and enjoyed it both times. The staff is incredibly friendly (and a little odd) with a great sense of humour.

The rooms were clean and the price was very reasonable (we went for the $6 dorm).

It is also easy to get around from here and is very close to the night market. Pretty happy with this hostel.

Stayed for 4 days in the 6 bed "ensuite" dorm. The room is ok, there's A/C but not much ventilation so it does tend to pong a bit. There's a bathroom attached to the room which is where I guess the "ensuite" bit comes in and another couple down the corridor which generally seemed to be clean and there were plenty of cleaning staff about in the mornings.
The location is great, pretty much bang in centre of things and only 2 mins walk from the riverside area, and close to bars, cafes and markets to cater for all tastes and budgets.
The lockers are reasonable size and feel secure, the bunks where relatively well spaced apart although a bit creaky. The staff all seemed ok and generally speak very good English.
Only real negative I can think of is that the wifi didn't work in the rooms (well my room D7).

Room Tip: There's building going on behind the bathroom in the D7 dorm where I stayed so we all got woken...
