“Stylish and tranquil.”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

This hotel is as stylish as shown in the pictures on their website and I loved it! Location is good, although crossing roads to get to the restaurants takes a bit of getting used to. Staff are young, very helpful and service is attentive but felt sorry for the guy whose job it was to spend all day opening the door :) Restaurant not cheap, but food is a of a high standard. We had the best croissants here EVER! Outside space is small but attractive - plenty of places to chill and pool is welcome. We travelled with our daughter (aged 8) who was made to feel welcome, but suspect she enjoyed our stay at the Kabiki more due to their larger pool and garden. Happy to recommend.

Situated on the best little road in town - walking distance from the royal palace and waterfront, this new design hotel is welcoming and friendly. The rooms are spacious and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The hostess did her absolute best to guide us to the best restaurants and other amenities. The only downside is the hard beds (seems to be standard in Cambodia) and the lack of soundproofing. We were treated to a wake up call from the next room's occupant who spent an hour throwing up rather unpleasantly in the adjacent bathroom :(. The spa is OK but not great. Still, highly recommend this place for location, rooms and service.

From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were treated like royalty. It is a beautifully renovated hotel with beautiful ammenities What makes it more special are the people working at the hotel Warm, thoughtful and always there to take care of you. The work done on the hotel is first class. It was a special birthday present for me and the hotel was alerted to this. There were flowers and beautiful towel swans on the bed. The room is so gorgeous. The cafe serves a superb breakfast, one of the best I have ever had anywhere and even if you are not staying here you should visit. The decor is clean white and really cool This hotel deserves to have an extra star rating. The on site spa is also a treat Thank you to Ms.Sophearin for taking care of everything Andto the beautiful Sao Moun Daung the General Mamager for running a beautiful hotel. I will come back here and highly recommends the hotel to anyone visiting Phnom Penh.

The White Mansion is an upscale boutique hotel in one of the nicer areas of PP. If you're looking for lots of in house restaurants and bars to choose from, this is not the place for you. But if you want an elegant quiet place to relax after long days in a chaotic and fast paced city, it is perfect. We were two families traveling together and had 4 rooms. All were nice. The two suites we had were very large with great bathrooms. All the rooms had strong air conditioning and wireless internet. There is a cafe attached to the hotel where breakfast is served. We also ate dinner there one night when we were just too tired to venture out. They served some standard cambodian and western dishes.

The staff was very attentive and seemed willing to do whatever was needed to ensure we were happy. There is a small pool area with some lounge chairs but we were out and about too much during the day to really take advantage.

In a city where just crossing the street and be a risky undertaking, the White Mansion offered the perfect respite to unwind and get ready for the next day's adventure.

Room Tip: Rooms 114 and 214 were incredibly large suites.

Overview - Stayed 2 nights, staff really helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Good location in 240 Street. This is not a chain hotel, mass produced and factory style - its a low key, beautiful boutique hotel.

Booking - Via Agoda. $115 USD (includes b/fast). Confirmed, print out voucher, charged directly via credit card online.

Rooms - stayed on 4th floor, room 410, large sized room, queen bed, luggage stools, nice linen, huge balcony, aircon adjustable, large bathroom, fridge (complimentary water and soft drink), kettle with tea/coffee, hair dryer, TV (western channels!), desk, free wifi in room (cafe), 2 indoor chairs, 2 outdoor chairs and table with views of PP. And did we mention the massive sized safe, big enough for camera equipment, iPads etc.

Food - All food is served in the smallish attached bright, modern & minimalist 'Le Cafe'. Breakfast (no buffet here! Yeh!) served 7am till 11am, was a choice of continental, healthy (muesli, yoghurt, fruit) americana (eggs, hash brown, sausage, tomato) or kids. Loved the freshly squeezed juice, and service was prompt (even we busy). Snacks included chicken quesadilla, toasted ham & cheese sandwich, fries, wraps, salads, and Asian options. Can order spirits, beer and coffee also.

Facilities - Long narrow lap pool with limited sun lounges (some in shade), Le Cafe is a smallish attached cafe (where you have b/fast), spa/massage offered at lobby level (prices were affordable), well organized tuk tuk/car service from lobby/hotel entrance (you can ask advice on reasonable costs for destination), well lit and security out front.

Location - 240 Street/near 51 Street (Pasteur), $2/3 tuk tuk to central market, museum, Russian market etc. Royal Palace, 15 mins walk. Near 240 street restaurants and shops. 25-40mins airport drive, depending on traffic ($10 USD car).

Pros - Front desk staff very helpful with suggestions on sites to visit, what to expect, best time to visit, closing times etc. They can organize car or tuk tuks, and upfront with price (pay driver direct). This is helpful in a competitive & poor city (just try and leave a market and walk past tuk tuk drivers!!). Rooms were large and great value for money. Biscuits and candies delivered each afternoon to the room, welcome fruits plate. Location was great. Many thanks to Sokha & Vichet and other staff also.

Cons - Pool area had limited shade and the area was long & quite narrow, with walls enclosing the poolside, making it noisy. Lift only goes up to the 3rd floor and its a staircase after that (people with mobility issues?). The 4th floor (its the roof) felt hotter than other levels, so air con was working a bit harder. You could hear some noise from other rooms, dragging of chairs and doors closing. Coffee/tea in rooms was limited in quantity, could do with more sachets. Had an issue with the fridge not working (fridge and kettle shared same power outlet, so fridge was not plugged in after previous guest - but was quickly sorted and all drinks were replaced with cold ones, promptly).

Suggestions - The continental b/fast choice could be less carb loaded (consider offering ham, cheese, chutney etc instead of loads of bread) - what about 'The European?'.

Other restaurants - La Residence (French) for an upmarket dinner, 2 pax, $170 USD (entree, main, dessert & wine), was nice (not amazing) very rich and decadent. Sam Doo Restaurant (Chinese) delicious dim sum, easy to order menu, clean, cold beer. Steve's Steakhouse & Greek Cuisine Restaurant (240 street)(Mixed Cuisine) good for chicken souvlaki (yiros).

Hints - Unless you 'really' need to walk around PP (its too big, spread out & hot!) or on a strict budget, take a tuk tuk or moto (it doesn't cost us much and helps the locals). Drivers are 'street smart', so make sure you carry hotel card with you, even then some can't read. Remember the hotels street number, nearest intersection or landmark. Beggars wait outside market areas, museum entrances etc, so keep some riel (local money) on hand (unless in Siem Reap where "only USD" was demanded, they refused riel???). Bargain at markets. Airport shops have only limited high end gifts/souvenirs (buy from markets).

Room Tip: Lift only goes up to the 3rd floor; Room 410 (4th floor) has huge balcony.

We arrived in Phnom Penh at about 11pm after travelling from Boston to NY to Seoul to PP, not sure what to expect and dead tired. The guide we had hired was there to meet us and deliver to our hotel - yay! When we arrived at the White Mansion we were very pleasantly surprised. It is a lovely boutique hotel with a simple but elegant lobby and a sense of quiet while the city outside is not. Our room at the front corner of the hotel on the 2nd floor was big and beautiful. The bathroom was lovely and spotless. In addition the manager was lovely and could not have been more attentive and the cafe served a great breakfast and great coffee!! Loved it!!!
