Owner description: Small, personal trips around Phnom Penh. Take a daytrip to the Phnom Tamao Wildife Rescue Center or spend 2 days in the countryside with a homestay, Feed and interact with a variety of rescued and endangerd animals at the rescue center or see some ricefields, go hiking near a waterfall and spend a night at our family farm. Both tours include delicious homecooked meals and everything else you need. The size of the groups is limited, to give you a more personal experience. The area around Phnom Penh is varied and offers many different sights besides temples and Khmer Rouge history that most people associate with Cambodia. We want to show you some of these happy places.

Vathana and Aram are instantly likeable, you can sense they are excited with the day ahead and sharing their knowledge. Jeep ride was fun as we all traded travel stories, including Aram. We saw and interacted with many of the animals, hearing their personal stories as we went. Lunch was excellent, thank you Vathana. Best trip in Phnom Penh, will do again when I return to Cambodia.

This was a wonderful day.

This is a small, personal, tour. The guides clearly care about the tour, the animals, and you. There is no formality, just friendly, lively and natural conversation. There is also no forced tour patter - although facts are there, they just get sprinkled into looking at animals behaving naturally. (and this is a good, western style zoo, with large open enclosures)

It is really great value, with a tasty lunch cooked for you on site. Sitting round, on a raised Cambodian style, picnic area with good company. Betelnut do a great job of of making the whole day easy, interesting and highly memorable.

The rain fell most of the day we toured, and we didn't care a bit. A thoroughly enjoyable day!

We hired Betelnut tours to take us to the wildlife refuge center only a few days ago. Adam - one of the guides - picked us up at the Lazy Gecko on time! We were a tad late (sorry!)....
Adam was very friendly as was the other guide whom I can't seem to remember their name.
The ride out in the jeep was comfortable - they even provided us with a traditional Cambodian scarf to protect us from the sun. As well, several bottles of ice cold water were provided throughout the day.
The guides were both well informed about the animals in the zoo and shared the history behind many of the animals we visited.
The wildlife refuge was not the typical zoo I expected. It was very centered on the animal care and because of that, there is not a lot of focus on the frilly viewer comforts which I must say tend to take away from the environment and habitat - this place was great! You really felt like you were visiting the animals home and you could get closer because of it.
We got to scratch the gibbons and meet Lucky the elephant up close and personal.
It was a memorable day and the lunch provided by Adam's wife was tasty and large enough to provide us with enough fuel to get through it!
I highly recommend this tour provided by Betelnut :)

Phnom Tamao Wildlife Reserve tour on a topless jeep!

Early morning we made our way to Lazy Gecko to meet up with our guide. Decided to head out slightly earlier so we could fill our tummy first. Cafe serves up a decent english breakfast but best highlight to kick start the day was greetings by this sweet little curvaceous resident pug who simply tugged my sleepy heart strings awake!

Guide and his wife was really warm and friendly, hopping onto the jeep with another couple whos going for the tour as well, being fellow animal lovers the australian wife and the happy moods and cool weather for a start, we warmed up and made quite a good chatter with adam the guide sharing stories with us, then his wife, then us and it was story telling all the way!

Having no idea what adams background is, all I know is he comes from Netherlands, I was very impressed by the amount of knowledge he had on these animals that were rescued and a few fun facts! He knows what he shares and you can feel that it isnt just about only making tourist bucks, this man cares about these rescued animals enough to want to repeat, share, and answer any question you have on a sweltering hot day!

Honest value for money responsible sincere guide who cares and goes and extra mile to keep asking if we needed more bottled water and digging into his own fruit bag to offer us his banana to feed the many animals we came across.

Lunch is most interesting with rather well behaved wild nonkeys keeping their distant away from you and the food, its simple home style way its served up tastes heavenly. Yummy!

To sum it up in hash tags like the nows,

#sincere#rugged#fun# heart warming#animal lovers#second chances#hope#great cost for a great cause#pug#lots of happier animals#sight seeing#sunset

You want to experience cambodia? No other better ways then to ride on that jeep and go ahead get alittle dusty with the wind flapping your hair around. Its one of a kind awesome!

DEFINITELY RECCOMENDED!
:)

*on a good note, its good to get ample early nights rest before for you would be outdoors and quite abit of walking though the jeep never leaves us too far away to ferry us to further enclosures. And drink lotsa water too!

I decided to come one back earlier to Phnom penh from sen monorom, to do this tour. And it was all worth it!
I had a perfect and great day.
They picked us up at lazy gecko cafe, and from there we went by an old army jeep to the tamao rescue center. Here we walked a part and did also a part by jeep. Our tourleader explained everything, all about the animals but also their stories, as it is a rescue center.
Some animals we could pet and feed, it was such a great experience.
It isn't a zoo, but a rescue center...very special. Would do t again when I am in Phnom Penh.
There us lunch encluded, and it was the best food I had in Cambodia :)
Thanks betelnut tours
