Be patient as everything is made from order and not pre-prepared. Amok the national dish was super and the (not) spicy favors where fragrant to the palate. Sit have a drink and eat well and without fuss and prices were great. Amok and dinner was $4.10. For comfortable clean fresh food with low key but attentive service you can't beat it. I ate at several simple restaurants for 50 cents less but charmless or slow(er) service and tasteless by comparison.

Very nice place, in the middle of the busy centre of Phnom Penh, but really relaxed on the inside. Very nicely decorated building. The food is equally great. One of the best places I know in Phnom Penh, and in entire Cambodia for that matter. The service might not always be that fast but they are superfriendly. The restaurant also has a social cause as they employ young people that grew up as orphans or in poverty, so an extra reason to go and dine here.

Menu had an extensive selection. Food was very tasty (I had the Khmer chicken curry if I remember correctly). Drink (papaya/passionfruit shake?) was ok. Nice relaxed atmosphere--that extended to bringing out the food. Perhaps there was one person preparing everything from scratch while keeping the fire going? It took at least half an hour (at the very least) before the food came out. But we weren't in a rush, so it was ok, just unexpected.

The Ebony Apsara is the happy medium between local restaurants with menus only in Khmer and the heavily-touristed places. The owner is a local; the menu offers great variety and also some lovely wines by the glass at reasonable prices. The space is just a great place to relax and enjoy. It's at the upper end of Street #178 (the art street), beyond the National Museum. I look forward to my next visit!
