“To confuse”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

I do not know if the idea to name the restaurant Sonoma is for the customer to believe that you are in California or because oysters come from there.

Without any doubt, the worst oysters I have eaten in my life so far. Were so bad that I had to order Australian Beef which was not good either.

Very poor wine list, with some references not available and unprofessional service.

I must say it again, worst oysters I have eaten in my life

“One of the best restaurants in Phnom Penh”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

This is a great restaurant. It is tucked away in a busy little side street but once found, well worth the time. It has a small downstairs area with a larger area upstairs.
As the name says, oysters are king here & they are far and away the best oysters I have ever eaten. I had a half dozen natural & a half dozen mornay. They were huge, fresh & beautifully presented. After these for an entree, a main course was almost not needed. I ordered the carpetbag steak cooked rare. It came out exactly as ordered, was tender & juicy with 4 or 5 huge oysters cut into the steak. I couldn't fit dessert in but saw some go to other tables & these also looked good. Great selection of beer & spirits.
This is not one of the cheapest restaurants in Cambodia but it sure is one of the best. Do not miss it if you are ever in Phnom Penh.

“Real quality oyster and orignal”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

We had a craving for oyster with friends and went there expecting the best... we were not disappointed

First the oyster shot and cocktail, never had tried it before, what original and the best way to start that our oyster evening

Then we had tried all different oyster types, from the plain ones to the ones with Vodka (we could not taste any Vodka though) with "caviar" to the cooked ones, unexpectedly awesome the ones with cheese and bacon!!

The wine was good and the service as well. I will definilty go back there... as quickly as possible...

“Zero service”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

Our group of 10 had a craving for oysters so thought to check out Sonoma. Two of us arrived ahead at 7pm, and was asked if we had reservations, and he said "NO". The waiter asked how many people (10) and sat us anyway, in practically the only table setting that can accommodate us (Ground Floor).
We came in at 7:15 and ordered for everybody. At 7:45pm, one order of oysters and one salad had just arrived (Probably because they require little to no cooking). We were then told that our table was actually reserved for someone else!!! We were asked to move to the bar (that can seat maybe 6?). 7:45 seems like an odd time for a reservation, so we figured the original group was late, so the restaurant staff could've enforced this and serve the existing customers - us! Or they could've been early (or on time), so they shouldn't have accepted our group (since there was no other place for us to be seated). Either way, this is just poor handling by the staff, and there seems to be no manager (or the like) around to handle this. They couldn't ask the reserving group to leave, while the staff hovered around the tables - hoping we would maybe sit wherever (at the bar, on the stairs, on the floor) and eat?

We had not tasted any of the food we ordered yet so this is not a food review. Decent food with great service often makes a great place. Great food AND poor service definitely makes a Bad restaurant! So however their food might've tasted, we will definitely stay away from this place.

Thank you for the free bread and water while we waited though. 30 minutes, no cooked food yet, then pretty much asked to leave. Great!

“Fresh Oysters & Good Food”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

Have always enjoyed dining at Sonoma. Their oysters are consistently fresh and a good size. The BBQ ones are now my favourite. The meats done BBQ style have always gone very well with my guests. The pasta with the clams or the scallops are definitely worth a try.
The service is very good. The cosy ambiance makes for a very pleasant dining experience. Pricing is good value but do not think cheap.Try to call ahead to make a reservation.
Will definitely be back at Sonoma sooner than later.
