“Can't fault the place, it's great”
Reviewed November 3, 2012 via mobile

We origianlly stayed at the Lazy Gecko following the Lonely Planet reccomendation but it was so dirty and overpriced we moved the next day a few buildings down to Kha Vi. The LP should reccomend this place instead. The staff are funny, friendly and generally a laugh. We ended up staying for a week in a big, light double for $10 with aircon and tv, a strong hot shower and there is a balcony outside the room. If they put you in a ground floor room and it's not your style (they don't have windows) just chat to them and they will move you to a room you like. You can ask them to clean your room and do laundry (best value we have had in PP) and the pancakes at breakfast are tasty! The location is great, we didn't know which area of PP to stay in but road 258 is alive with backpackers and is a 2min walk to Royal Palace and max 10min walk to Riverside restauraunts. Definitely great value here, we would fully recommend!

I had the pleasure of staying at Kha Vi's guest house a few weeks ago and will be staying again in another few weeks. For $15 a night you get a clean spacious room, twin double beds, hot and cold water and a/c. For $15. Now in Australia that would cost you $90-100! I laugh at some of the comments made by "younger travellers". For $8 they expect a 5 star resort! If you can't live without your mobile phone, t.v. computer and all the other electronic gear that you have grown up with, then don't leave home. If the hot water runs out, so what. Just appreciate the fact that your life is far better than most people living in Cambodia! Enjoy the country for what it is and don't complain when things don't go according to plan. Just remember that about 90% of the population are living below the bread line but they are still happy. Kha Vi's hospitally was terrific and so were his staff. If you have a problem with the translation, learn some Cambodian or ask for help. Don't argue over $1 with a tuk-tuk driver. What could you buy for that back home? They can live on it for a day. The warmest people that I have ever met. They have nothing but would give you the shirt off their back. I recommend this guest house to anyone. Put your creature comforts on hold and just appreciate Cambodia for what it is. A remarkable place.

Room Tip: Pay $15 instead of $8! Check out the rooms first and then choose and be polite to staff. What goes a...

It will a well located guest house with several facilities. The rooms are clean and their restaurant is good.

However the staff is not very friendly and helpful.

They are actually a bit rude, and tried to rip us off many many times. For example they booked a room for us in Siem Reap , the manager telling us that his brother was working there but it wasn't true. A tuk tuk was waiting for us for free when we arrived in Siem Reap, to take us to the hotel recommended by Kha Vi guest house but it was a sort of weird partnership between Kha Vi guest house and the tuk tuk guy. The hotel in Siem Reap did not know who we were when we got there! And it was a fancy hotel so the rooms were very expensive. So be very careful, dishonest staff at kha vi guest house, the only want to make money but do not care about you!

Stayed in PP twice. Generally expensive city so $8 at kha vi seems a good deal.

Sweaty little room but bareable.

Location is great, bit quiter than riverside and more public space. Close to places of interest and street 240 which we really liked.

Staff are really good, friendly and helpful. Book bus tickets at good price. Pp to Saigon is $10 at the bus station, $11 at the hotel and includes pick up - seems very fair.

Wifi in lobby is good, next to useless in rooms but who cares.

Didn't use it but laundry is standard price, foods edible and cheap. They do visas too but again didn't use.

KHA VI Guest House situated centrally and is walking distance to Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, National Museum, Casino, lively river banks…etc. Basic amenities inclusive and offered great meals selections, tasty and nicely club sandwich.. Owner Kha Vi speaks fluent English, knowledgeable in Cambodia history and sites. His staff are very friendly, attends to guest’s needs to the details. On evening chats on our arrival day and for being offered to send us to airport personally on the third day of our stay, I guessed Kha Vi likes to adds personal touch on hospitality business whenever his busy schedule permit. No wonder the rooms are fully booked in most days. Not forgetting the homely and lasting impression is his 84yrs mom’s broad and charming smilessssssssssss…..that greets every guest.

Kha Vi, I owe you a drink!

This hotel was ok, not the cleanest, but location and price were reasonable. i booked this hotel online, a room with two double beds for 4 people. when i arrived, they gave me a room with one single bed and one double bed. Took about a half hour of negotiating before they admitted that they do not have any rooms like the one described on hostelworld. I told them they need to email hostelworld and change their descriptions because they are essentially lying if they say they have a type of room that they do not have! In the end, they gave us two separate rooms each with a double bed. I would avoid staying here again.

Having read the reviews on Trip Advisor before booking we were expecting a basic room for our first night in Phnom Penh. We were really disappointed when we arrived to find that the room we were in was like a cell with one barred window into the main walkway, dirty sheets and towels with an awful smell of damp. We realised this was because the bathroom extractor was being extracted into the bedroom. It seemed the rooms on the other side of the road were of a much better standard but these rooms were truly hideous. My boyfriend and I can do basic but not dirty - neither of us would even sleep under the dirty sheet. If it hadn't been late at night we would not have stayed. Staff were friendly enough but seemed confused as to why we were leaving and continued to ask us where we were going. In short, I would not recommend staying here!
