Immaculately laid out with two shaded pool areas and staff who are incredibly polite, efficient and helpful.

Handy for the palace and water front.

The use of greenery to give shade and shape is very clever. The restaurant is well worth a visit.

Give me Red was the tag line of an advertising campaign back in India and that is what I shouted when I saw the Red Pool Bar at The Plantation Hotel in Phnom Pehn. It is a great experience to be had with a splash of red all over. The breakfast spread is not only fresh but humongous. The hotel itself is chic and boutique and maintained in excellent condition. The defining feature is the mania for detail and the arty look and feel. The landscaping, too matches the overall feel of the hotel. The best part is the location and its proximity to the river front and The National Museum and the Royal Palace and of course, the shopping and eating places. If you have the money do book the Roof Top Suite which is a like a good sized apartment.

I stayed at the Plantation resort with my wife early November. The resort has very attractive communial areas a large pool and various water features. The breakfast is taken by the pool and is a good buffet spread. The resort also had a restaurant but we did not try it as there were various other restaurants by the river we liked. The rooms are functional but a little basic there is no separate bathroon the shower is an open alcove off the bedroom and the wah basin is in the bedroom. However the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The staff are friendly and helpful we had an enjoyable stay.

Not sure I stayed at the same hotel as other reviews.

Checked in about 3pm for 2 nights. At check-in I scheduled a massage for the next day. Everyone seemed friendly and helpful.

Went to the pool about 4:30pm, nice pool but no food or drink service. Mentioned this to reception and received little response. Bar manager called me in my room, apologized and said the staff were very busy and short staffed. I guess 2 staff texting on cell phones is very busy. He promised staff would welcome me tomorrow.

Next day, wen to pool – no welcome, no service. But found why, staff only service the cabanas and not the lounge chairs. For 2 hours I was not approached by anyone but staff went to all the cabanas and offered menus and fresh towels.

Next point – staff. All very friendly at check-in but then no greetings from anyone throughout the property other than housekeeping.

I saw cats roaming the hallways. This, for me, is not a sign of cleanliness. What kind of hotel allows this?

Restaurant – very disappointing. The Saturday evening BBQ was pretty disgusting. They offer a buffet – a number of salads and you can make your own salad. They also offer rice and 1 vegetable – cauliflower. Yes, 1 vegetable – I asked. For the BBQ you can choose from quail, chicken, frog legs, fish, ribs, beef. It is all laid out, raw, in the open air. You use tongs, pick what you want, hand the plate to staff to grill. Everything is out in the open, uncovered just like at the local market. Plus other diners pick over everything. Talk about cross contamination….salmonella

One gentleman complained about finding….get this….a NAIL in his salad. It was disgusting.

I needed to cancel the massage appointment. No one could find my booking. Again, the front desk had no reaction. Never mind no response. Not even any reaction.

I find it amazing the management responses fron Alexis here on TA says to bring problems to management for solutions. I TWICE asked to speak to the hotel manager. I’m still waiting.

I spent 3 weeks in Cambodia breaking up the trip to Siem Reap and the south with 2 nights in Phnom Penh. In addition to the Plantation, I stayed at Raffles and The 252. The 252 is just a bit more expensive with a great pool, fantastic staff, good food an bar, and just a bit further from the sights. I would not recommend the Plantation……stay elsewhere. Raffles and The 252 were so much better by every standard.

Well, this seems to really be a miss. I noticed that when something goes wrong at check-in or in the very first minutes at the hotel, things keep rolling in the bad direction. Thank God it does not happen that often and we try to minimize the odds, but there seems to still be some failures... Very sorry about that! Working on it! Cheers, Alexis

The pool area is wonderful, the rooms are modern and lovely and the breakfast is great. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The bookings desk arranged a driver to take us to Siem Reap which worked out really well. The perfect little oasis (when you need it) from the city outside.

I think The Plantation is my best hotel experience ever. The staff were extremely polite and helpful. The location is central, but amazingly quiet at night considering how busy the neghbouring streets are, with the Palace, National Museum and many other Phnom Penh landmarks a stroll or quick tuk-tuk ride away.

The breakfasts, however, are out of this world. I have never seen anything like the quality and range of choice. The rooftop restaurant was also first-class.

Ah, me, how I love and miss Cambodia! The loveliest people in Asia.

Room Tip: Try getting a room facing the pool and ground-floor dining area.

How could anyone name a hotel in the middle of a crowded, gritty city "The Plantation"? Well, in this case it's perfect. As soon as you walk into the elegant modern "cloister" built around a huge reflecting pool, you'll know you've entered something special. But you have to pass through the beautifully renovated villa that houses reception and upstairs restaurant before you see the lush, tropical courtyard that justifies the hotel's name. The website photos of spacious modern guest rooms, initimate poolside "cabanas" alongside the 25 yard infinity pool, and the pool-side bar/casual restaurant are nice...but they can't convey the tropical comfort that will make you want to stay longer and not bother to venture into the city outside. The National Museum, Royal Palace and the Mekong River are just a few blocks away. We had enjoyable meals at nearby resturants like Friends and le Wok, as well as drinks and a meat pie in the historic old Foreign Correspondents Club, which overlooks the river. But on our last night we decided to have dinner in the hotel's roof garden and were delighted with the liesurely meal..
