“Oasis, charming building, exceptional pool, quiet and calm”
Reviewed March 8, 2013 via mobile

I stayed with my mum for 4 nights at the Plantation after reading good reviews. Instantly in awe of beautiful restored French colonial building the hotel lobby is located in. Stayed in both superior and deluxe room due to lack of availability, I wouldn't really bother paying the extra for deluxe, it had a balcony that was shared with 2 other rooms it was a bit random and there was no view- preferred the private courtyard with no view in standard room. Although didn't spend much time in room because... Pool is amazing!!! So relaxing, not busy and most people sit in the little private bungalow things and on the pool chairs reading and drinking and eating the delicious restuarant food! The food was not overly expensive, $4-$8 generally and the cocktails were amazing ( passion fruit mojito was favourite $4.50). The staff were very friendly and helpful also except the gym person who sat on his phone the whole time- not sure what his role was watching me run on the treadmill in the small gym was ( bit awkward!). Gym simple, but enough to make you feel like you can excuse all the over eating at the breakfast buffet! Beautiful stay- didn't see many kids, a few little ones but I wouldn't bring a big family, some of the older stayers might stare you off! Highly recommend!

The hotel is well placed and adequate - our room didn't get made up but it didn't bother us. I'd have rated it as Good but the options are only Very Good or Average - so have given them the benefit of the doubt.
Note the bathroom is open plan.

It's a great hotel, central to everything and well laid out. The pool and the gym are both good, the staff are friendly and its a relaxing place to spend a few days or a week.
They are thoughtful too. One day while at the pool there was some work taking place (they were building an outdoor shower) and in the space of 2 hours I was offered two complementary drinks to compensate for the noise. It was a nice touch, and the noise wasn't actually that bad. We had a lovely stay.

An average hotel well located in the Palace Area. The pool is great with very nice surroundings and the breakfast buffet is decent (their jams are excellent!) and they do great poached eggs. The rooms are pretty average however, beds are fairly standard so don't expect any plush beddings. It was a fairly average decent stay (I'm not sure it's worth the price tag at usd90 a night)

The only real gripe I had with the hotel were the front desk staff who gave us wrong information on several occasions. If you are in a hurry and need to get to the airport prompto, hop into a tut tut. The hotel told us that taking a car would be faster (which it isn't given the usual traffic conditions). Additionally they told us not to use our leftover cash to settle our bill as we would need to pay an airport tax of usd25. In the end, there was no airport tax and we were left with all these Cambodian Riel which is basically useless - unchangeable anywhere else.

The spa was also pretty average and if we didn't have a 30%discount , I wouldn't have had the massage (pretty weak even though we asked for a strong massage)

Overall we found Cambodia a lot of expensive than we expected - tut tuts were usd2 to the central markets or anywhere along the waterfront, and usd3 to the russian markets. Taxis from the airport were usd9. The hotel had a recommended price list for tut tut rates to various locations stated as the 'maximum' price one should be paying and to also negotitate before boarding. However the tut tut drivers simply quoted these rates, and one even said to us, this is the rate given by the hotel! So much for being able to negotiate. In 2 days, we probably spent almost usd40 on tut tut transport & an airport roundtrip by taxi. Quite ridiculous if you compare these prices to neighboring countries like Vietnam or Thailand or Philippines. While this wasn't directly related to the hotel, the hotel did try to 'encourage' us to take their hotel taxi (usd12) to the airport even though they knew we were in a hurry. (a tut tut would be way faster)

If you are looking for a decent stay without frills, this would be a safe bet.

Dear Guest, I am sorry you did not fully enjoy your stay in Phnom Penh.

I also usually recommend to take a car to the airport as I do not like to be in a slow tuk-tuk on the speedway that leads to the airport. But I guess it really is a matter of taste.

Some aircompanies do not have an agreement with the airport, so some tickets include the airport tax, some don't. For those who do not, a tax of 25 USD for international flights is to be paid at the airport. Our staff should have told you that some tickets include it, some don't. Just to be on the safe side, we recommend our guests to keep 25 USD in cash.

Cheers,

Alexis

My girlfriend and I arrived here after a couple unpleasant journeys within Cambodia and some rough lodgings too. What a perfect choice. We were immediately taken to our lovely room - I think it may have been the worst in the whole hotel but it was the cheapest and more than we could have asked for - and shown the pool.
We barely left the hotel for the next three days. The pool is spectacular, especially if you are lucky enough to get one of those bungalow places.
Our breakfast was delicious every morning with incredible service.
I can't stress enough how much I enjoyed my stay at The Plantation. It was a refreshing stop on a grueling budget journey and continued to showcase how lovely Cambodians can be.

Room Tip: Looking into the neighbors bedroom wasn't key but anything with a balcony will be enjoyable!

As we weaved through the dusty streets of Phnom Penh by car after a 5 hour journey from Sihanoukville, we were becoming a increasingly anxious as to where we had booked to stay for the last 2 nights of our month long trip of Vietnam & Cambodia! We finally arrived at the Plantation to be greeted & our minds put instantly at ease by friendly helpful staff. The relatively new hotel, which was formally a government building i'm led to believe, is very bright, modern & clean. The rooms are modern, clean, quiet & very comfortable. The staff, as with the other places in Cambodia which we stayed, couldn't do enough for us. The pool has a great feature of individual double sunken sun loungers shaded by cabanas whilst the breakfast which is served around the pool area is very good. The location couldn't really be better, within short walking distance of the palace & good places to eat. Its great to see Phnom Penh "on its feet" after the city was deserted & pretty much destroyed during the Khmer Rouge rule. This hotel is very good & was a lovely end to our trip. A welcome retreat within the hot busy bustling city.

Unlike the name suggested, the Plantation is more an oasis in the middle of buzzoing Phnom Penh, on walking distance from the Royal Palace, the river, the temples, FCC and the Pub street. As for food, the Plantation has a good and affordable menu to choose from. Service is all you wanted to be. Rooms and swimming pool setttings are prefect for romantic couples to enjoy. There's a basis gym. Wifi are available everywhere. At the time when we were there, the entrance gave home to a unique local art collection.
