“Real boutique hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2012

Minimalistic but warm deco, full of details in an oasis of calm, this hotel has earned the label of "boutique". The service is splendid, the food is real good, the rooms are spacious and full of details like the speakers they provide so you can plug in your IPod and listen to music like at home. Very glad we stayed here!

Stayed for 3 nights during our long tour of South East Asia. Was pleasantly surprised when the gate rolled back from the outside street. Yes, there are buildings and building work going on around the hotel but its in the city so that is expected. We stayed on the top floor and we knew there weren't lifts or phones but it wasnt a problem. If you have mobility or fitness issues then opt for a low floor or find another hotel. Its not rocket science!
The pool was very clean and we enjoyed the chance to cool off and relax in the delightful poolside cabanas.
The rooms were clean and spacious with A/C and ceiling fan. We used the laundry service which was quick and very cheap. How do you get your washing to smell so nice?
We ate every night at the hotel, which was reasonably priced and the service was excellent. The quality of the food and choice was really very good too. The Khmer set meal for 2 was delicious and well worth trying. Treatments and massages etc are very cheap.
Would come back to this hotel again.

Room Tip: Pay a bit extra and get a room overlooking the pool. Avoid high floors if you dont like walking up s...

Arriving exhausted after a 14 hr journey across the border from Thailand the warm greeting from the staff on reception and the simple elegance of the hotel was exactly what we needed. We didn't get a chance to swim in the pool but it looked beautiful and we enjoyed some good food in the restaurant alongside it. The room was clean and attractive in a minimalist way. We would have stayed more nights but it was fully booked. A small complaint but we missed having a blanket or duvet.

Roll back the gate and you encounter a relaxed, friendly, individual oasis with good food, excellent staff and spacious rooms.

The hotel has its own individual appeal and character. Careful thought has been given to its unique décor and design. The excellent, spotless pool area with its bar and individual cabanas encourages a friendly and relaxing atmosphere.

The room was clean, spacious, comfortable and tastefully furnished. The bathroom was large, modern and well appointed.

The hotel is in the city centre and but requires a short tuk tuk (always available) ride to get to any of the tourist areas including the riverfront.

All the staff were friendly, courteous and always willing to help including in arranging my 4am airport pick up.

The menu offers both western and local food at a reasonable price. All the food I tried, including fish amok, beef lok lak and the breakfast was good and the service was quick and efficient.

There is building work going off but it appears the majority of the heavy work has now been completed and the noise was minimal and did not disturb.

Overall an excellent hotel with its own characterand high standards, which some multinational hotel chains could learn from. I would have no hesitation at stopping here again

First of all, for the good thing: we asked to check out late (13:30), and the lady at the reception has agreed since there was no need for the room.
Now for the bad … there was almost nothing at the shower … except of soap and shampoo in battles that were over. In 4 stars hotel there was no telephone to communicate with the reception.
The reception look like cheap guest house (ofcorse not 4 stars). No elevator at the building. The bed sheets were very thin and if you need more blanket you don't have phone to ask for it (or elevator to jump to the reception and ask for it). At the total we were very dissapointed from the overall "4 stars" hotel. We paid almost 50$ for a guest house …

Please let us comment on your review. As you booked through agoda, you should have taken note that we are listed as a 3 star hotel. Also, if you would have checked the hotel features, you would have seen that we don’t have an elevator and no phones available in the rooms. You stayed on the first floor and there are only a few steps to reach the front desk. We feel sorry that the design of our hotel did not match your needs, but everything you complain about is clearly shown and mentioned on the website you booked through.
Kind regards,
Stéphane

This is quite simply a fantastic location for seeing and experiencing PP and then returning from the noise to an oasis of tranquility . The building is a fine example of post independence architecture and the high ceiling front facing rooms look out onto a fine swimming pool . The restaurant is both relaxed and serves good quality bar food attended by some of the best staff I have seen in any Phnom Penh establishment . Cannot wait to return .

Room Tip: Choose a pool facing room for a little extra cost

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and only one major problem. Staff service is important to us and the staff were as helpful as possible. Perhaps the reception staff lacked a local knowledge a bit but they tried. Breakfasts were fine. The room was pretty good. We had a pleasant view overlooking the pool. Pity about the high-rise buildings around, but we were in the city! The pool looked a bit cloudy but we were told it was a result of the high winds (hence leaves falling) and rain (and there was plenty of that). The only real problem was one of the hotels tuk-tuk drivers. We engaged him at around 5pm to go to a mall. He stopped when the last road he wanted to go down was closed due to police cordon. Apparently something to do with Khmer Rouge trials. He refused to go around. So we had to pay him and we tried to walk the last bit. But we were stopped by police and then it rained, so we just got another tuk-tuk back to the hotel. I should mention that the driver reeked of beer, so we guess we interrupted his drinking binge and he was eager to get back. Not very professional.

Room Tip: Check the correct fare with the reception staff first. The drivers take turns, so the guest does not...

Thank you for your review and comments. It is always helpful to have feedback from customers in order to improve our services. We are sorry to hear your experience with the tuk tuk driver in front of the hotel. Please let us mention here that they are not employees of the hotel. Nevertheless, we agreed on fixed prices with them which are announced at the front desk. We investigated on your case and it seems that the driver did not understand where you wanted to go. We warned them all on alcohol consumption during their working hours and we will check more carefully on this issue. Again, thank you for your feedback.
Best regards,
Stéphane
