When you walk into this historic villa you believe you are going into a historic place. Once you enter into it and sit down you are stared at by patrons who look as if they are aghast you would even dare step into their domain.
What is worse is that when you figure out why. Many of these highbrow's work for NGOs and think that they are in Cambodia as they were sent by some miracle to cure the nations ills. In reality most are self serving, high salary for nothing, paying locals nothing types.
This really makes the atmosphere terrible.
On the bright side, the staff is really friendly and the food is good. It is very pricey, but if you look at the NGOs and the amount of money they can blow here as it isn't their own money, the price is over priced.
You can overlook the Mekong River from an open balcony. It is very photographic and probably a great spot you can go to. There is nothing historic about this place, maybe a few photographs, but no big names from the days of yor. You may be disappointed if you think you will go and find some historic stuff there.
Better just go to S-21 for the afternoon if you want history and nostalgia. Russian market better. Better restaurants down the street with the same view and lower prices and friendlier crowds.
I would say that if it had better clientelle in their it would be a great place to hangout on every weekend. Just a bad vibe from the clientelle.
