This is a fairly clean, basic hotel. Decor is jaded - holes in bed covers, bathroom need re-grouting at least, lamps fixing, but comfortable enough. The roof top is pleasant, but not open late. Breakfast very basic -western breakfast was just eggs and bread, not even a fruit plate. Staff mostly very friendly, and most service excellent, but caught one receptionist who was slow to respond watching blue films on the computer, completely visible from the hall leading to the elevator (yes really, right at the front desk), and one morning, although breakfast was supposed to be served from 6 and they knew people were eating early to get buses, the restaurant was completely dark and a girl had to go and get so Elbe before she could order.

The room was clean, the staff were super friendly, including the tuk tuk drivers.
However there I run out of positives.
It's in an awful area and in one evening - going to my room, the rooftop bar and back to my room I met 2 men with partners they'd clearly just picked upon the street. It made me feel really uncomfortable and I chose not to continue my stay.

What i enjoyed much is the roof bar. Very calm and refreshing, after a day walking around town.

The location is near lots of restaurant accessible on foot. The nearby very popular Sabu Sabu sushi buffet restaurant is very nice and accessible on foot.

Service is nice and welcoming, if you need information about something ask at the desk and the staff will get it done. It's a nice place to relax after a harsh afternoon and before going out for the evening.

Room were ok and clean. And calm enough so i could even get some work done.

Room Tip: Do not hesitate to ask check the room before checkout to chose one that fit your taste.

Hi if you are looking for a clean room, not to far from all the city sights with helpful staff & decent breakfast. You cannot go past the Royal. We arrived at midnight, arranged prior via email. No problem at all for the staff.

we stayed at this hotel for one night. we really enjoyed our stay.

on checking in the staff were very friendly and efficient. we were taken to our room and it was very clean and the bed incredibly comfy. it was nice to have a bath and the shower was good.

we ate at the roof top bar in the evening. the food was exceptional and very cheap. the views lovely and the staff very friendly they also gave good service. i do believe the boys should have had more support. even though they were fantastic and apologised for delays there were two of them going to get the food and at the same time having to make alot of customers drinks.

breakfast was good but the choice limited

although we didnt venture out of the hotel the area was not ideal and in the evening judging by what i saw in the day i may have felt uncomfortable.

nevertheless this hotel was cheap and good value for money. definately eat at the reasturant

thanks!!

I stayed at the hotel during the beginning of December 2013, during my solo trip around South East Asia. This was my experience of the hotel, which obviously would be different for each person who ventures and experiences things differently, so please do read this bearing this in mind.

Service, Quality, Value:
The Hotel is bad and should be avoided. The pictures online are deceiving and the reception is rather unfriendly. Payment is required upfront before checking in, so that you are locked in at staying at the hotel upon viewing of the room they allocate to you. Through my experiences of other solo travellers, it is NOT the cheapest hotel in the area, so best to do your research and get a better hotel for the same price:

Location:
The location of the hotel was not very central to the town, and so, taxi’s are required to go and come which are available although do cost an extra few dollars per trip. Again, this should be borne in mind for travellers on a tight budget. However, it is possible to take a walk to the riverside and palace although it is about 20-30 minutes. You can stay more closer for a better hotel which is NOT in the red light district of Phnom Penh (they do NOT advertise that fact!)

Breakfast:
Decent breakfast, although not much variety offered. Do NOT lose your voucher.

Decor:
Cheap, no windows, smells like smoke, no shower (only in tub), not very clean. Wrong room was given to me and this was not accommodated for after (as they charge your card before hand!). Really this should be an illegal practice and they should be held accountable.

Other:
Save all the details off your booking.com/ asiarooms page and take it with. Like literally, take snaps which shows the pic of the room you booked for and make sure they give you that room. Else this hotel gives you other rooms that you did NOT pay for and they make more money off you. They seem more concerned about how much money they can make instead of delivering service for the items already paid for.

Avoid booking tours at this hotel – cheap tourist trap tours only sold here. Rather do a private tour yourself.

Airport:
Hotel overcharges for the airport transfer – rather hassle with a taxi outside (and not the one who parks outside the hotel door- he is a rip off!)

Overall:
I would strongly urge people to avoid this hotel and do their research and stay at other hotels in PP which are more central, cleaner and offer decent rooms and service. There are very little positives to mention about this hotel, even when trying actively to do so. PLEASE DO NOT LOOK AT THESE PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS!

Room Tip: none- all rooms are smelly

This is one of those hotels which is adequate in most respects but doesn't have any "wow factor" and in the end I'd recommend that you stay elsewhere.

The best thing was the room, which had a nice canopy bed, an airy, spacious feel and a bathtub. All of these things made a positive impression, especially for the mid-range price bracket. We had no complaints about the room at all.

In contrast, we only ordered room service once. It wasn't terrible but the servings for both of our meals were on the small side and we could have eaten out at a decent restaurant for how much it cost. It was one of those situations where if the servings had been just a little bit bigger, we would have ordered again. Instead we went to the Korean restaurant a few doors down instead.

The main drawback for us, however, was the location. I'd much rather be down on the riverside near Street 172 or along the "quay". The area around this hotel did nothing for us and it is quite a hike to the main bar and restaurant zone. Yes, it is walkable or you could just take a tuk-tuk, but why not just stay down there in the first place?
