Pluses and minuses

I stayed at this hotel because I wanted to document bon om touk (I am a university professor), so I needed a place that was convenient to the river (my apartment is 9 km away). It was OK. The hotel is well kept and the rooms are clean and spacious. Communications were awful. Before I arrived I sent THREE emails direct to the hotel -- ZERO replies. Not a good start. First morning I left my room at 8 am and asked to have my room cleaned. Returned at 9:30 and the room was not cleaned. I went to a young man doing some cleaning on my floor and asked him to clean my room. He started giving me an argument about it, so, I switched from English to Khmer and he decided it was best to clean the room. Breakfast was absolutely terrible. The "hot" food was not hot, and it was barely edible. The rice seemed to be a day old and was barely warm. Second day I tried a pork dish and a beef dish. The pork was room temperature on the outside and stone cold in the middle. The beef was too tough to chew. They also have salads available -- which I don't want for breakfast -- and an egg station (which I also do not want in the morning). The restaurant menu is mostly for Westerners with some Khmer dishes thrown in for good measure. Expensive. I ate cup noodles in my room -- cheaper and digestible. If you are a Westerner this place is probably OK for you, but I will not stay here again.

Hotel in need of up updating, staff not particularly friendly and it seemed like they wanted to make a few extra $ by missing items from mini bar, charge for ‘dirty’ towels, lost key cards.
The hotel was in a great location, near to the river promenade and Palace/Museum., however it was very noisy in the street till the early hours of the morning.
Breakfast acceptable.

Room tip: Take ear plugs. Check your mini bar, and take pictures of what’s missing and inform reception straight away.

Recent stay at the Ohana was just as good as usual - I work with a group that means yearly visits to Cambodia and the Ohana is a known entity. The location is perfectly located for the river, the palace, Wat Phnom, the markets, restaurants and lots more. A short tuk tuk ride to many attractions.

Friendly staff, good range of amenities, very good breakfast with wide choices and reasonably priced drinks and other meals. We love watching the thunderstorms and the river traffic from the roof restaurant and lounge area!

The rooms are clean and the beds are comfy. There’s a fridge and a safe and toiletries. Although the hotel is looking a little dated and shabby in spots, the overall quality and what you get is excellent for the price.

Please remember this is Cambodia, not NY. It may not be all you want, every room may not be perfect (I recommend at least floor 4 or 5 away from the stairs) but it’s a fabulous deal for a comfortable stay in Phnom Penh.

Convenient city hotel in Phnom Penh. Efficient front desk staff and quick check-in. Rooms offer many different views so inquire with on-site staff. I had a good view of local food market. Others in my group had river or city views. Rooms are large with good amenities (safe, AC) and toiletries. Rooftop pool and restaurant. Ground floor pool also (shady but good break from heat). Good on-site security and walkable to palace, river and market. Friendly and attentive staff - I lost power in my room and fixed in less than 10 minutes.

Room tip: Ask about your view if you have a preference.

SECOND REVIEW - had stayed previously. This review reflects three separate stays over August & September.
Staff: It's not about the greetings or smiles it's how committed to helping resolve an issue when there is a problem that matters. Mostly underperformed 3/10. Housekeeping very good and helpful 9/10. First time in my life I have tipped the lady who cleaned my room.
Rooms: Depends on which room. I had Balcony Room on Level 4, Residence Room on Level 6 (thought there was nowhere to place wet towels etc) and extended stay on Level 5. (505). All rooms I stayed in were the front street view with big balcony. Accept that some noise impact from noisy Bar across street and usual street noise, so if this disturbs you avoid balcony - especially street facing. Other rooms/positions not experienced but another guest mentioned side view (towards markets) also experiences noise.
Hotel Building: must be older than it looks. ACs in need of serious overhaul. Check the mould in the Lobby above the lounges cluster. One room reeked of mould which was visible. Yet, was shown this room as an option when had a problem in my room with AC. Had dripping onto floor that bad that it needed a bathmat in middle of entrance area in my room. Staff explained it was because I was running on low temp setting all day every day. During one of the attempts to resolve the ac maintenance man simply took out the filter and washed it out in my shower and put it back. Improved 100% and stopped the dripping. Sadly, it took four days to get there! There are some underlying problems with the prior poor maintenance for this old thumper.
Pool: Very nice for a semi undercover hotel pool. Not a tropical setting but good size. Several sun lounges but the area, being partially under cover is shielded from the sun by the building. Water can be quite chilly. Otherwise, 7/10.
Gym: Several cardio machines (no bike) one folding bench, a range of DBs and a multi-function exercise machine looking towards pool. Reasonable for a hotel gym Tip: make sure ac is on 30 mins before going there. All equipment worked well. 7/10
Breakfast: Well-staffed and buffet selection regularly checked and refilled. Could benefit from small fire heaters under dishes to keep warm, egg station. and poor working toaster never set correctly. I enjoyed the selections, especially the curries when prepared. Some may see this as limited choice as one vegetarian complained but worked for me. 9/10
Location: I thought well located close to Riverside, local market (although this has some downside) restaurants/cafes and Bars yet far enough away to get away to avoid the noise and hassle except from the Bar across the road. Easy walk to Palace and short Tuk Tuk ride to many other local attractions. Plenty of annoying Tuk Tuk drivers outside as there is throughout the immediate broader tourist area. 8/10
Has chilled water refill station next to elevator on ground floor. BYO bottle 10/10
Booking: My pain was eased getting an extended stay at USD32 per night (includes tax/with breakfast) through AGODA. As such have rated higher than if paid full price. Several questions I had raised earlier remained unanswered when I sent messages through email and Messenger. Staff later advised me they ignore email because they get too many (meant spam?).
At above rate - would stay again!! Otherwise...?

Ohana is a lovely little hotel. I don't have big list of requirements for a hotel but thus place ticked all 4 of my minimums
Clean sheets - tick
Comfy bed - tick tick
Clean bathroom - spotless, although be aware my room had a shower over bath
Wifi that works - tickets tick
The location is awesome. Walking distance to the royal palace and all the sights. Just across the road from the Mekong which is great for an evening stroll.
The pool looks fantastic but I didn't get to use it as there was so much to see and do in Phnom Penh
The staff were just lovely. Everything I asked for they were happy to help, and helped me sort out my any hurdles I had
Breakfasts were delicious and very filling. Definitly check out the rooftop bar. The views are great, the food tasty and the do a mean Pina Colada

Room tip: There is a shower overbath. If that'd an issue for you
