“Blue Lime Hotel - Good hotel with excellent location but...”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

Pleasant but bland, this low-rise hotel's location is ideal: within walking distance of the National Museum, the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, and Sisowath Quay. This place is not only clean and friendly but doles out free and fast wi-fi internet connection. Their breakfast is average but the passion fruit juice is excellent. The hotel also has a beautiful small pool.

We stayed in the uppermost floor because there was no more room available in the lower floors when we arrived in the wee hours of the night in Phnom Penh. It was extremely difficult for us, especially to my elderly mother, to go to our room because of the steep and narrow staircases.

Room Tip: Do not stay on the uppermost floor!

Dear Guest, I am sorry about the stairs to the third floor, indeed very steep! Nothing much we can do about that. We looked at various options but nothing seems to fit.... Cheers, Alexis

I stayed in the Superior Double first two nights and Mini Garden room for the 3rd night.
Firstly - I would not pay extra $10 US for the mini garden room again. I only had this room as there were no standard/superior rooms available for the 3rd night. I just would not have used the mini garden. I much preferred to sit around the pool, rather than the 'definitely mini' garden provided. Not appealing for me.
My shower in Superior room was not great. But shower better in Mini Gard Room.
The rooms are sufficient and clean. You have fridge and small safe in room and cable TV.
The pool is awesome with great sun beds for your use. Breakfast was ok (sufficient).
Head straight down 178 street (which is 2 seconds walk from hotel) and you only have to walk a short distance to National Museum, Royal Palace, and to the River for nightlife and eating. As a female solo traveller I did not feel unsafe at all walking at night, but still remained alert at all times.
Tuk Tuks wait outside the hotel and will and can take you to all other sites in town (Killing Fields, Genocide Museum and Russian Market etc). I paid $20US for 6 hours, but I am sure you could get cheaper on the street or bargain these guys down. The hotel suggested $18 to $20 was ok for 5 - 6 hours with a tuk tuk. But when walking on the river, tuk tuk drivers seemed willing to negotiate more. One Man said he would take me for $2 an hour. Staff very friendly and very helpful. I recommend this hotel. And will stay again when next in Phnom Penh.

Room Tip: Shopping: 178 street has some great boutiques. Check out Garden of Desire for some beautiful hand c...

We spend 3 nights here after getting the bus from Siem Reap. We were made very welcome by the staff and shown to our room with a privet plunge pool. It cost $75 and worth every penny. The staff were all really helpful and couldn't do enough to help. They even helped us woth our visas for Vietnam where we were heading after here. Just imagine waking up in the morning, step outside into the already hot day and falling into the pool. Superb. Breakfast was good - enough choice. Main pool is lovely, as is the garden. The cabanas make for a relaxing base for the afternoon if you don't fancy doing touristy things. Despite what others have written, we had no problems with hot water, or lack of. And we saw no insects at all. As for the noise from construction sites, well good luck finding somewhere that doesn't have construction noise nearby in Phnom Penh. Just block it out. From the Blue Lime, it's a couple of dollars in a tuk-tuk to get to the waterfront and it's right beside the museum. Right next door to the Blue Lime is a wee mexican restaurant/bar run by an American which does great food. If you're heading out for the day, there is always a tuk-tuk right outside the door so you won't have to wait. Like everywhere, fix a price to the killing fields or S21 or wherever before you get in though.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, we'd recommend the private pool rooms. A dip in the morning sets you up fo...

A lovely little hotel away from the hustle and bustle, but walking distance to the river and nightlife area. The palace and the museum are also around the corner. If you want to travel further afield, there are honest and well priced tuk tuk drivers at the front entrance. The staff were lovely and very helpful. Our room was spacious and well furnished, but the best thing was the pool, with green surrounds and fantastic daybeds. A great place to come back to and relax with a juice or a cocktail after a day of sightseeing.

Room Tip: Choose a private garden room. Away from the construction noise next door.

Pro's:
Very central,
large, high-ceiling room

Con's
-Cars can hardly access the alley is in (as our driver find out)
-the hotel (hall/garden/bedroom) is infested by mosquitoes
-and is surrounded by buildings sites starting at around 5 a.m.
-the bed-linens had seen better days and were greyish
-the pool-water looked rather oily, dirty and uninviting.

Dear Guest, I am sorry you did not like our place. The Blue Lime is indeed in the middle of a small alley behind the National Museum. It is a very typical Phnom Penh alley where every one knows every one and is a bit as a village. This particular atmosphere made us chose the location, but I understand some might not like it.

The pool is treated with Kampot natural sea-salt and does indeed sometimes look a bit milky. But we have a computer driven treatment and filtration which works perfectly and makes it perfectly safe at all times.

We have our own fogging machine for the mosquitoes but we are hesitant to do do more than two treatments per month. Perhaps will we increase the frequency if it is really needed.

Cheers,

Alexis

We arrived off the bus from Siem Reap and had a tuk tuk take us here, as we approached the dirty alley way i was beginning to wonder... but Hidden behind a door, is a gem.

As soon as we walked in i just relaxed, beautiful decor in the lobby area and as i turned i saw the beautiful pool area with palm trees and daybeds.
The friendly staff carried out suitcases all the way to the 3rd floor, as we started to unpack our bags and settle after along bus ride we could hear construction going on right next door, as we opened up the wooden shutters, the building was only a hands touch away.

We asked the staff the next morning if we could change rooms and they were more than helpful,as we had been out all day we came back to the hotel where they informed us they had gathered our belonings and put us into another room ( they did apologise saying they did wait for us to return before they decided to pack up our stuff).
The room was nice and cosy and no construction noise could be heard.

Breakfast was beautiful, a good selection to choose from and made fresh.
Pool area is amazing, just what is needed after a full day out and about, lovely day beds.

Location of this hotel was great, only a short walk to the royal palace and the Muesum, and only a couple of streets away from the river.
Would definately stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Beaware of the construction going on next door.

This was our first hotel in Cambodia and after travelling for a couple of days arriving here was amazing. Everyone had said that the people are friendly and that Cambodia is different but we were in for a shock, in a very good way.

The pool area is simply amazing, it's quiet with quiet music playing in the bar and you'll easily lounge the day away in the small huts. Pool is of good size and the water cool enough to, well, cool you down. The only downside is that space for sunbathing is a bit limited due to the trees and plants. There are few spots for it though by the pool.

We stayed in a ground floor room with entry from the reception directly. Was a bit worried that the noise from the reception would be a problem but a double door took care of it. Room was very airy, clean and spacious with a high ceiling.

The location is awesome with the palace right around the corner and the river 2 blocks away if you don't want to eat at the hotel, which you should at least once.

Looking back the service was the best I've received anywhere. The staff let you be but are kind of there if you need them and always up for a chat. Especially the manager was amazingly friendly.
