“Great place for lunch and afternoon tea!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

I frequent Jars of Clay every time i'm in Phnom Penh. It is a nice little quaint cafe just around the corner from Russian Market. Jars was started as a social enterprise, with the aim of providing young cambodian women with skills to ensure a decent and sustainable livelihood. The ladies today run and manage the entire cafe. The cakes/ food are all made by them as well!

The sheperd's pie and lagsane are my lunch favorites. The portion is huge, and it comes with a generous serving of chips or fresh vege. The cakes are delicious as well. The ones to try are lemon slice, carrot cake, passion cake.. actually, just try everything if you stomach affords it.

You can expect to pay about $5 to $6 dollars for mains, $3 for a drink and $1.50-$2 for cakes. Can be a little pricey compared to other cafes, but worth the try when you are near Russian market for a shopping trip!

“We ate here twice in one day we liked it so much!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

We were staying just around the corner from here and thought that with such good reviews we just had to give it a try. We first visited at lunch when it was extremely busy with many people arriving. I did not realise at first but there is also an upstaies seating area. We sat downstairs and were greated prompty with a well stocked menu with a range of dishes. We ordered fruit juices which were made fresh and also some soup and a toasted sandwich. I was surprised at the size of the dishes, there was a lot more than I was expecting! We sat for a while with no rush to leave and enjoyed the buzz of the place.
In the evening we got out later than we expected and a lot of resaurants in the area close at 9, we didn't want to spend too long trying to find somewhere so headed straight back to Jars of Clay. We had already noticed that they do sheppards pie and lasagne, two dishes i miss living in Asia. We ordered quickly and the food was prepared prompty. The sheppards pie and lasagne are both pre-cooked and on display in the cabinet. To prepare them, they simply microwaved and boiled some veg. Although this was okay, the taste was somewhat reduced by the microwave with the once nicely melted cheese now a little crusty and burnt.
Unfortunately, we were too full to try the selection of cakes, although we might head back again.

“Afternoon Deliciousness”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

This is a great place to come after shopping in the Russian Market. It's a little difficult to find. We found a tuk tuk advertising 'Jars of Clay,' so we said bring us there. Dessert is wonderful, brownie or the mango cheesecake. Khmer coffee is delicious and the smoothies are good. Sweet place for a cool down.
