“Very poor hotel”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

Tonight i went to "The Quay" on riverside, boutique hotel with rooftop bar for my friends birthday

Pros:
Good cocktail selection, very nice vodka sour

Cons:
Smelt like a garbage truck on the rooftop
All the fans were broken, sat there sweating like a pig
Nothing to clean your hands with in the bathroom

So much for a boutique hotel, i wont be going back again much better places to spend my $$$

it would be a much nicer atmosphere in the lobby/restaurant but the door man kept pacing back and forth right in front of our table the whole time. also every time i looked up he was staring at me. very uncomfortable.

This hotel is lacking in just about every way. The online photographs do not do justice to the state of uncleanliness and poor maintennace of the rooms. There were burn marks on the curtains. The bedspread was stained and the airconditioning did not work. The security lock to the door was broken resulting in the sliding door to the balcony being permanently unlocked. I complained about the airconditioning and was advised that someone would come and look at it. After an hour I made another request and was told it could not be looked at until the following day. The room was unbearably hot. The rooftop bar was nothing to rave about. The bar tender in the downstairs bar was friendly and helpful. The welcome to the room included some lovely little cakes and the staff were genuinely making an effort, however this hotel needs a lot of attention towards maintenance and cleanliness.

The Quay is the only hotel in Phnom Penh that brings contemporary design and quality together into one space; and then keeps it going from the structure right through to the organic shaped crockery to match the elliptical tables in Chow's restaurant in the lobby and the delightfully asymmetrical ceiling fans in the hotel rooms. It's small (16 rooms), intimate and well run.

I was there for a month on business, mid-July to mid-August 2012, in a Suite and had a wonderful, efficient stay. Wireless internet is fast and available throughout the entire hotel, including the Rooftop Bar. Room desks offer LAN internet cable as well. Bathrooms in the Suites are massive with stone feature walls, large rain showers and a separate 6 foot bath. There is a full sized desk for working behind the bed head and Reception will find you a real office chair if you ask for one. The room is clean, comfortable and stylish. It was a treat to come back to in the evenings.

The Reception staff are efficient and speak good english. Happy and knowledgeable they will help with the small errands such as shoe polishing. The breakfast crew are efficient; and offer a pleasingly wide choice of complimentary breakfast options, these can be delivered to the room too.

There is contemporary furniture in the restaurant/ lobby complimented by a natural Khmer silk frieze in warm colours down the wall opposite the bar; a great evening rooftop bar for sunsets and catching a breeze, complete with spa for the mildly exhibitionistic; and a regular warm and welcoming live music night on Thursdays from 7:30 onwards.

The music was mostly contemporary jazz, performed by Ewan on instrumentals (sax, guitar to match any good Jazz club) and vocalist Louise (South Sea Island goddess-teacher). The Thursday crowd is Phnom Penh hip. Very few of the tourists doing the evening riverfront promenade stop by.

The usual challenges for every hotel exist here too, such as keeping the many out-of-the-ordinary elements working e.g. eclectic ceiling fans, Bose in-room sound system. I had fan and air con problems one afternoon and evening, but these were fixed the next day without delay.

I do not hesitate to commend The Quay to both leisure and business travellers.

Room Tip: If staying for more than a couple of days, try a Suite with a view of the Ton Le Sap River. the roo...

The hotel is very well designed with a real modernistic style. The only problem is that management will really have their work cut out maintaining the place due to the poor workmanship in the initial construction. All of the rooms are good but the balcony rooms are exceptional with a lot of space, nice design and a balcony overlooking the river and all of the action in the street. Somewhat more expensive than what is available around Phnom Pen but well worth it.
A very compact rooftop bar is available and there is a small rooftop pool up there as well. Remember that what you drink up there has to be paid for at the ground floor bar.
The Breakfast on offer is good with good choice and quantity.
When we walked into the Ground floor bar on the Thursday night there was a live jazz group and a decent crowd as well.
Dont do as we did and look for a wall switch for fans -- It is all done on a remote.

Can't comment on a hotel stay here but the rooftop bar is well worth a trip - we went twice for happy hour. The drinks were amazing! We got a lychee champagne cocktail, a chocolate pepper spiced cosmo (which was my favorite) and another with tamarind which was great. One night we got a shrimp appetizer which was also very good. The view is nice but it would be great if some if there was some cover on the roof.

The young men working there were very kind and were excited to speak to us since we spoke English.

This wouldn't be my first choice for a place to stay but the bar is definitely worth a trip!

This was out second stay at the Quay, and it remains good value with well designed rooms which are nicely appointed. The Quay is attractive as it’s small and has a great location, it’s looking a bit more tired after 9 months since our initial stay, but the rooms are clean and there are few better places to watch the sun set over the Mekong and Tone le Sap than the rooftop bar. The staff tries hard to please and are accommodating of all your needs. Great breakfasts, good coffee and a comprehensive wine list also contribute to a great place to stay.
