The Rizqun International Hotel
Reviewed October 11, 2008

The hotel was rated with 5 star, and it definite lives up to the standard. I was impressed with the service and the friendliness of the staff. The front desk staff was very helpful.

This hotel was a big disappointment for a so called Five Star hotel. When we arrived we waited an inordinate amount of time to check-in. The allocated room on the non-smoking floor smelled like a smoke-filled bar and we requested another. In the new room three different aspects of the plumbing were faulty – hand basin, shower and toilet. It was $40 a day for internet access, but they had run out of cables anyhow. We had to purchase one from the next door shopping centre as the hotel staff weren’t inclined to accommodate our need. Overall, the staff were clearly not interested in providing any hospitality or service, it was an effort to get a smile from them. The buffet breakfast was sad and I couldn’t get staff attention to top up the jug for a glass of water, every day over fours days. The swimming pool tiles had an alluring green moss, and there was a rigorous towel allocation procedure that seemed to serve no purpose. We never felt more like a drink in our lives, pity we were in Brunei! Oh yes, a positive, the hotel is close to the Gadong night market which offers lots of local delicacies.

We stayed at the Rizqun for 8 nights and were thrilled from the moment we walked in. The hotel is conveniently located in Gadong which is a suburb of BSB and is attached to a large shopping mall. The hotel is luxurious and is of palatial proportions. The buffet breakfast is excellent and provides a good variety of food (served from 6.00-10.00a.m.) The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful.
Gadong is a vibrant area with lots of cafes and restaurants and is popular with the local inhabitants. There is a large night food market about 2 minutes from the hotel and the food is excellent - I can attest to that!
Taxi transportation in BSB is very expensive even for a short trip. However the local bus runs from across the street every 15 minutes (nos 1 or 20) into the centre of BSB at a cost of B$1.00.
The only negative comment I have is that there were only 2 umbrellas by the pool to provide shade and the temperature was 33 degrees!

I've stayed several times en route to Sabah and to Vietnam. It's centrally located some 15 minutes by taxi from Bandar Airport.
The accomodation is excellent, well furnished, large rooms with all the mods and cons, aircon, cable tv, phone , fridge.
Personnaly, I prefer this hotel to the Sheraton anytime as the rooms are quieter and much larger.
The Rizqun has a lovely pool and several excellent restaurants, together with some of the biggest function rooms in the world.
An added bonus is that it's part of huge shopping complex and close to the local food markets which is a must at night!
