“Will the last tourist leaving the building...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

I traveled to BSB about 8 years ago. Even all these years later I am delighted that I visited the Royal Regalia Museum. This is a big sized building and I saw only 3 other people the whole time I was there. Mom, Dad and child. I understood that this museum was created to capture the day the XXX ascended to the throne. Everything is here. Royal jewels, gifts from foreign governments, the seating chart for the huge celebratory dinner (in miniature) and so on. But what made me laugh out loud was the life sized processional display. The figures are clothed in the uniforms worn on that important day. Overwhelming and beautiful and still amusing. It loses a couple of points because in this richest of all countries, light bulbs were out and displays like movies had out of order signs on them.

“Best in Brunei”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2013

By saying "Best in Brunei" don't think that this means a world class destination. It served it's purpose for us as we were waiting to get home to Blighty and had 8 hours to kill without a beer.
We were amazed by all the lovely gifts the Sultan has been given and were highly amused by the awful vase that our own dear Liz had given.

“Like the Sultan's attic of unwanted gifts”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

Although it was interesting to see all of the amazing and odd gifts the Sultan has received over the years from dignitaries from around the world, you can't help but think about how over the top extravagant it all is. Gold, gold and more gold. I am aware that the Brunei people are well taken care of in terms of education, healthcare, wages, etc. but you can't help think about how much money each of these gifts is worth and yet poverty still exists in this Sultanate.

I think it is worth the visit because it is free and it is entertaining more than anything to see what gifts the different countries have give him over the years. Also on display is a complete replica of when he was sworn in as the newest Sultan.
