We had a 12 hour layover in Brunei on our route from LHR to Melbourne, Australia. We booked the Brunei Hotel as a 'Day Hotel' but actually paid the overnight rate. Technically we should not of been able to book in until 2pm but the hotel was flexible and let us check in at 9am. We checked out at 20:20 the same day to reconnect with out flight.

Anyway, the hotel is beautiful, central, spotless and the cleanest I have ever seen a room.

I tried to change my flight back a day so I could stay in Brunei again at the Brunei Hotel.

Definitely my choice.

Room Tip: They do offer day rooms through Royal Brunei Airlines.

We stayed in Brunei for 3 days - which despite this being a lovely city, is far too long!

We travelled by Royal Brunei airlines, which is the reason for our stay being so long. The flights were a good price and a good quality, however they changed the dates, times and flight routes a number of times, which meant we needed to stay in Brunei an extra day (cutting short our next trip), and also had to travel via Kota Kinabalu to Kuching, rather than direct, which was our original plan. However, as an apology, they did pay for the extra night, transfers and meals.

Brunei Hotel is a nice hotel in a convenient location within the city- although nowhere within Brunei is far - you can easily walk from one end of the town to the next within 15 minutes. The rooms have recently undergone refurbishment (as has the whole hotel as it looks). Due to the limited availability of things to do, it would have been great if there was a pool. The buffet breakfast is okay. Not sure if the two single beds are standard, but they were comfy anyway.

Brunei is well worth a visit to see the beautiful mosque (we went inside, but the outside is the best) and also take a ride to the Kampong Ayer (water village) - the biggest in the world - and a real sight to see, with the water village being quite unexpectantly established with schools, hospital, police and fire station! They even have their own petrol station! We did this with a local boats man at the jetty for an hour and was 30 Brunei Dollar.

As other reviewers have commented, alcohol is not available in Brunei, and many shops shut at 5pm. There is not a great deal to do in the evening - it's extremely quiet. The newly created water front has a few restaurants which are nice in the evening.

We took a walk to the craft centre (as detailed on local maps), although this was closed.

If you end up being stuck for a few days, it's worth taking a trip to the Empire Hotel - you can use their amazing outdoor pool facilities for around £12. Although when we visited it was undergoing significant redevelopment so much of the pool area was not open.

we also took a trip with Intrepid Tours to the local rainforest - it was a nice day out and the canopy walk at 50metres high is scarey but fun. Unfortunately we didn't see any animals, but the water boat ride to temburong is amazingly fast and fun, and the long boat journey through the forest is fun too.

Stayed at the hotel for 5 nights on the way back from Singapore to Australia for a second holiday, it's in the center of town, the staff are friendly and helpful, the room was very clean with a flat screen TV a DVD player small fridge kettle cups tea coffee provided and free soft drinks in the fridge and free internet access if you have a laptop, has a nice toilet shower unit with a universal plug for a razor, the included free breakfast was wonderful, tea coffee orange juice, serial toast jam, noodles rice vegetables meat or eggs omelet bean sausages, you just helped your self, The hotel is about 100 meters from the main bus terminal, a $1 bus fare will take you any where, the hotel also has a free shuttle bus that goes to different locations at a set time and will pick up at a set time--just ask at the desk

Cannot fault the room the service the location or price, would defiantly stay there again

We stayed here for only one night, but it was worthwhile. The roommwe had was very nice with all necessary comfort you need. There's a good wifi connection in the lobby and free wired Internet in the rooms. The breakfast buffet is ok.

We stayed in this hotel for a day, on our way back to England from Perth, Australia. As our connecting flight to England was more than twelve hours so we stayed in this hotel. The hotel staff are very friendly and very helpful. This hotel rooms are very clean and all facilites are provided. This hotel is in the town centre close to river and local market. Also easily access to shops , restaurants and shopping complex. I can recommend to anybody to use this hotel when you are in Brunei.

Very centrally located, the river is just one block away. Rooms nicely furnished, very clean (besides a flat-screen TV, the room also had a DVD player - nice touch). We stayed in a wheelchair-accessible room, but the two single beds could not be put together as they were screwed to the wall... Nice breakfast. Overall a good experience, even though the price seemed a bit steep.

Not an enormous hotel but newly renovated, super clean, super friendly and accommodating, next to the river and the market. Still reasonably cheap. My fav hotel in my 2 week journey, thank you!
