Owner description: The Brunei Museum was established in 1965, with its first administrative office at the Civic Centre in Bandar Brunei, now known as Bandar Seri Begawan. Given approval for a building of its own, a location was selected for the museum, on a historical site, at Kota Batu about 5km from Bandar Seri Begawan. The construction of the building commenced in 1968 and was completed in 1970. It was officially opened on February 29, 1972 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of United Kingdom.

“Closed until further notice”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2014

I don't know how to rate this place.

It was full of disappointment.

Such a big museum, they can't convey the message that they are closed.

Went there on yesterday 7th March 2014.

I reached at the main entrance, seems normal. I went to car park to park the car. No security guard on duty but the gate left opened. After parking I walk to the entrance.

Guess what?? A small A4 paper on the door "WE ARE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE"

“Get to know Brunei in a short while”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2014

It's a bit of a distance from the center of the city . You may hire a local guide to bring you. It's informative on how Brunei got to be Brunei as we know it today.

“The Islamic Gallery is the only thing worth going for.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2014

The museum consists of 3 galleries, one gallery showcases the animals and plants of Brunei, the other showcases the oil economy within Brunei, both galleries can be avoided, I personally found it uninteresting.

The Islamic gallery was quite fascinating as many historical relics and artefacts were gathered from across the Islamic World, mainly from Iran, Egypt, Turkey and India, with a few relics from yemen and oman.

“Worthwhile to visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2014

Eventhough three of the six sections were closed the three remaining sections gave ample oportunities to view the history of islamic art, the biodiversity of Brunei and the history of the oil- and gas exploration. Especialy the bio section is nice to visit with children. The islamic art section shows Beautifull historical artifacts of Iran, the middeleast and the mediteranian. From as early as the 11th century.

“Must see”

A great musium to get to know the royal family and opulence in Brunei.
All displays are real and what you would expect in such a rich country.
Definitely worth a visit.
