“Panam City Magical and Sonaraon Impressive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2013

My visit to Panam City was truly the highlight of my visit to Bangladesh. I enjoyed the opportunity to walk slowly up and down the main street, talk to residents, and talk photos at my leisure. Seeing Sonaraon was also memorable. The crowds were friendly and many wanted a photo with an American with blue eyes. Great trip not to be missed.

“A good day trip from Dhaka”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

The 500 year old mosque was interesting but the highlights are the decaying mansions lining the road. It's not possible to get into most as they are so decayed that they could collapse, but we got into one in which the entertainment room had been well preserved. The nearby folk museum was rather dark with small, not very interesting exhibits, though the building was interesting. The attached market with clothes, food and souvenir stalls was quite fun to walk around. The worst bit was the traffic getting there!

“Time traveling”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2013

3 hours by car from the airport, can take more, can take less. Traffic is crazy in Dhaka. Bring plenty of water and some snacks. You can buy some fruits from the side of the road but other than that nothing is really recommended if your stomach is sensitive. Ask your driver to pop by the "fake Taj Mahal" which is a small reproduction of the original. Some artifacts can be bought next to the entrance. Entrance fee is some small amount, close to nothing. It's a good half an hour - hour walk there. Then head back to the car and continue to Panam Nagor and Sonargaon. It's an old historical site, with not that many tourists, we only met one British old couple and the rest were all locals. The houses are beautiful however not maintained at all. Locals have moved in them too. Walk along the Main Street, enjoy the view, the feeling of the golden age of Bangla times. There is a Hindu temple nearby too, and on the way you can meet an old men too, who is a teacher. He has a cow and he also moved into one of he houses. People are very friendly, they invite you to their places, offer you food ( even if they struggle themselves), introduce you to their kids. Emotional experience that one of the lady handed me her baby and said- bring her to your home, she will be better there! Life is not fair. Go, visit this place it's a good break from the overcrowded, crazy city of Dhaka!

“Old place but nice!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

It's a historical place it became as the capital of Bengal during "Isa Khan's" ruling. However, right now it has few small Museums and little lake inside the area also few restaurants. It's kinda nice place and near to Dhaka to spend some spare time.

“Ancient Bangla”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2012

If you want to experience the old Bangla era, the era of Shayesta Kha, the viceroy of Bangla then this is the place. You will get to see a lot of old buildings which showcase the ancient architecture. There are "Mela" and other places that you can visit and buy clothes from.
