Central Shaheed Minar (Monument of the Martyrs) is a modern monument, it was built to commemorate the historic language movement of 1952.In 1952, people of Bangladesh, especially students and young generation fight against the govt. of Pakistan to establish Bangla as a state language. On 21 February in 1952 the police shoot on the protest rally organized by Dhaka university students. Some student and general people were killed and seriously injured that time. The monument was built for paying homage to the Martyrs. The monument is just north of Dhaka Medical College. It is open all time all the year. Anyone can come here from any where of Dhaka city by bus, rickshaw or Taxi/Cab.

This is a national memorial to a very important local cause which lead to the freedom struggle. The memorial itself is large, with plenty of visitors. There are lots of snack vendors, families and because it is meat the University there are groups and couples ambling around. It is very pleasant.
