“Lalbag Mosque and another one nearby in old Dhaka”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

The fort which is said to be consisting of 3 parts; the mosque, tomb of Bibi Pari, and Diwan-i-Aam & Hammam was supposedly built in the 1678! Wow! My PG student being a male managed to enter and pray in the mosque while I took pictures. The rest was closed since it was a Sunday. The internet pictures of the mosque look better. We walked further down the road away from the mosque and found another one which looks as old (maybe not). Don't attempt the walk if you're alone since we didn't see any foreigners at all except a few while outside the Lalbag mosque. The narrow were busy with the locals going about their usual daily tasks - it was interesting.

“A view from the outside”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2012

My colleague and I didn't know that the place was close on a Sunday so we just viewed from outside. It is a museum now. The gardens looked well kept and the old red buildings looked majestic. Since I've been to Dhaka city 4 times already and this is my first glimpse of old buildings (I love old buildings - see my past reviews) in Dhaka, it was a welcome change from the rest of congested Dhaka. There were 2 old mosques nearby which I also enjoyed visiting though only my colleague was allowed in being a man (my graduate student).

“Lack of cleanliness”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 24, 2012

A nice historical place but affected by lack of careness. The authority should give more attention. If they could do that then it would be more attractive.

“A little boring, though nicely kept garden”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

The garden was pretty well maintained as compared to their streets. The building was in pretty good shape too. The little ticketing counter was tucked into a corner, so you'd have to look out for it. The area outside the compound was filled with photographic opportunities, so spare some time for that.

“Lalbagh Fort”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

A pleasant visit to one of Bangladesh's remaining historic sites, although the place could use some maintenance - it is an oasis amid the traffic chaos!
