Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka
Ranked #10 of 83 Hotels in Dhaka City
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 20, 2012

I stayed at PanPacific for a night during my wedding ceremony and have been at the restaurants many times over the years.
The hotel is centrally located in Dhaka, close to Bashundhara mall and in a few months will have good outdoor recreation spot once Hatirjheel Project is completed. But note that the place is atleast 1.5hrs drive from the airport and far from Gulshan and Baridhara area.
The property is comparable to other 5 star hotels except the rooms. The rooms need to be uggraded with better furnishings to make it comparable to newer Westin or Radission. The bathrooms are also dated and have more of a 3/4 star feel to it.
I really hope that the management takes up major upgrade work since Ruposhi Bangla Hotel is soon turning into Intercontinental Hotel after complete makeover and the hotel will face stiff competition!

I travelled to Dhaka for the first time in April, and I stayed at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka.

First impression was good - the airport transfer service was reliable and punctual.

The hotel itself is rated 5 star. Although the interior of the room is somewhat run down and I am sure to many it's probably of a 3-star standard when compared to most other hotels worldwide, it didn't bother me too much (see the end of my comment). Staff friendliness and politeness definitely compensate for the outdated rooms, not to mention the rooms were clean.

Other good things about the hotel:

- Good internet connection. It would have been better if rooms support multiple devices.
- Good variety of food choices - as already pointed out by some fellow reviewers, the hotel has got 3 restaurants with wide range of selection - buffet (different themed buffet option every night) and a la carte.
- Good gym location - facing the swimming pool where you can also watch the sunset from.

As such, the only improvement area I can think of is about the interior of rooms, which I think we have to adopt a more balanced view as Bangladesh is still a developing country. I am sure the hotel has been working hard to maintain its high standard.

As a regular visitor this property is where usually were i stay. The hotel truly looks 5* from outside itself. It boasts of 3 different buffet spreads daily as well the swimming pool and the gym is really good. Also lot of dignotaries and personalities stay here, have myself encountered many of them like international sport teams of various countries from Cricketing world. The security is really the best here. Although the rooms & lav's need to be checked from time to time. Also it depends on which floor you staying. It's a good business hotel. Major drawback of this place is distance from the airport. If happen to land between 8-10 in the morning atleast expect a 90 minutes drive to the hotel. The Italian buffet is the best, avoid the sea food and the other buffet.

I would rate this to be one of the best hotels i have every stayed... Also that i have stayed here sometimes more than 20 days continuously... this is one hotel you may not get bored off quickly... the food is great, the rooms are clean and luxurious, the swimming pool is great... I didnt enjoy the bar, but the restaurants were simply superb... Also one of the best buffets you will ever have!!!

Room Tip: Choose pool facing rooms, they are more airy

As a regular visitor to Dhaka, have found this Hotel as convenient with pretty efficient staff which is helpful once they get to know you. The rooms are good sized and have all the requirements of a modern business traveler especially a comfortable bed and a plasma TV! The rooms and toilets need constant checking as I find items missing from the room and sometimes housekeeping overlooks to fully replenish the toiletries - surprising as Pan Pacific is managing. The Pacific Floor is very good and the lounge is very useful with the usual personalised services, snacks and happy hours. The rate is expensive but compared to other premium hotels is within the ballpark. The swimming pool and health club faclities are good. Restaurants are good. The lobby is great and they have gone the extra mile to give privacy to the hotel guests. The exchange is better done from the banks as is usual.

Overall happy with the hotel.

Not enough value for Money

Who would like to spend above 200 US$ in Bangladesh for a mediocre room, strained wall, shabby interiors, Old CRT TV! Unfortunately that’s the reality today.

Dhaka is not having enough 5 star Hotels. Radisson is very steeply priced. Rupoosi Bangla’s old wing is very disappointing, Westin is too far so Pan Pacific is trying to squeeze as much as possible.

It doesn’t mean Pan Pacific Sonargaon has nothing good to offer. Few Positive points are:

Location
Wide courtyard
Nice Swimming Pool and Fitness Center including sauna, steam and Jacuzzi
Huge Restaurants and nice verity of items during morning buffet breakfast.

The view from the room is quite disappointing. Just adjacent to the boundary across the swimming pool there is huge pond with filthy water. Other than that, the surrounding area is very crowded and shabby looking.

Basundhara is within walking distance where you can encash your dollar/Euro. The exchange rate offered in Pan Pacific is very bad.

If you are staying in Pacific floor then you can enjoy unlimited drinks and food during happy hour. Otherwise also during lunch/supper you can have decent bites without any extra penny. Soft drinks are available throughout the day.

If you are staying in this hotel then in the evening you can go to the bar where you can enjoy some local music and dance along with Local girls in revealing dress sitting cozily beside you. I’ll not be able to tell you their rates however those are readily available and must be quite cheap. If you are staying on Pacific Floor then enjoy those girls in the room without any extra charge. I think those are encouraged in order to hide many drawbacks of this hotel. Though Bangladesh is a Islamic Country but this practice I have seen also in other hotels.

Sleep quality is average. The amenities and in room toiletries are comparable to any 3 star Hotel of Modern world. I can’t call it a 5 star hotel.

The food preparation is decent. I stayed in this hotel multiple times more than 15 days. I tried Bengali dishes (local dishes) here. It’s not at par with any Decent restaurant of Kolkata (which is also famous for Bengali food).

I could find only Quran and Bible in the room. There was no Hindu or Buddhist religious book which wondered me as pre-independent Bangladesh was largely Hindu dominated society.

Room Tip: Look for Pacific Floor rooms

I went for lunch on the restaurant and was nothing interesting. The service was not bad, it was JUST "ok". The food was quiet simple. I tried better dishes (presentation, flavor, combination of ingredients, etc.) on normal restaurants of other countries. For a restaurant on a hotel like this i was expecting more.
