Outdoor seating is little too much to handle at night because of Mosquitos but the best lobster I have had in my life!! Lovely ambiance

“Backpacker Eco Slow Fresh Juice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2012

The jungle eco-resort with bamboo furniture and funky art on the walls (though there are no exterior walls) is a relaxed place to drink invigorating fresh juices. The Wild Banana Shake is a dessert in of itself. Like many places in Dhaka, sometimes the Mermaid Cafe does not have certain ingredients - some days are "no prawn" days. The Spicy Thai Chicken with Organic Beans and Rice is yummy dish, and the only organic rice and beans that I will eat on a regular basis.

“Baridhara-ok: Gulshan-no way!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2012

I have been a few times to the one in Baridhara. It is not bad for round here. The price is pretty extortionate in comparison with other places, but the surroundings are quite pleasant and if you live this side of the city is is definitely a good option to not have to drudge through the traffic.

However, do not think you will enjoy the same benefits at the Gulshan franchise. The only similarity between the two is the extremely slow service (we waited an hour and there was not a single other person in there) the relatively high prices, and the fact that most of the menu is not available and when it does finally arrive, it bears little resemblance to what it said on the menu.

The manager was keen to promote their 'eco-resort' in Cox's Bazarre and they are clearly trying to expand their business. Good luck to them, but they perhaps need to get one of their outlets right first before spreading themselves a bit thin.

“Good food but bad location & very expensive!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2012

I went to the one in Gulshan not the Baridhara one. The service was very polite and attentive. However upon entry into the cafe we were not impressed as we had to walk up through a crowded and alley way which led to a dark staircase. Once up we were surprised at how spacious it was.
We ordered lemonade and watermelon juice. Both tasted great. Our food consisted of grilled chicken, spaghetti, salmon with grape sauce and calamari. Food taste was above average. However the biggest complain would be the price. If you are going to have to pay around tk2500 then might as well go to a 'restaurant' like Sajna or Santoor and not a 'cafe'. Cafes should be fast, light and inexpensive. This was not the case here!
