If you are woman, and alone, don't go there. You will feel yourself very uncomfortable. Often the smell of the river or its banks is unbearable. A lot of people, a lot of small children - they will stick to you as soon as you enter the area. Prepare 10-20 Taka for the ticket to go inside port. But it is still amazing, so many boats, people, and colours. Try even take a small boat to the other side of the river. Unforgettable experience.

Well, its a very old launch terminal as you know. Very crowded and noisy surroundings. Excessively crowded and poses a risk of your baggage, well stay aware and safe in sadarghat.

Once the beautiful riverside of the crowded Dhaka city is slowly becoming a dead flow of water supply. With water like black ink and smell like rotten corpse, the place has become very unwanted to the common people. The place has a life without any doubt but the pollution has overshadowed the exciting life of the riverside.

It is situated on the bank of the river Buriganga. For a visitor, there await an amazing scene with different types of boats, - uncovered and covered boats, cargo boats, speedboats, tugs, and motor launches- going in every direction. Regular services by motor launches including passenger and cargo to Southern towns leave every day in the afternoon. Paddle Steamer service introduced during the colonial period is still in service to most of the towns in its route up to Khulna is also operated from this river port. Paddle system steamer service for passenger service is obsoleting now a days in other countries. A trip by Paddle Steamer will enable a guest to enjoy the riverine beauty including the countryside of Bangladesh.

Every guidebook recommends visitors to experience the unique filthiness of the Buriganga River, consistently rated the world’s most polluted, as thick and pitch-black as asphalt. But this is also where many villagers wash their clothes or take a bath. Those who can afford luxuries like soap even shampoo their hair before rinsing off with water, the world’s most contaminated that is. My local guide took me on a private boat, not so miserable since I didn’t mind this open assault on the senses too much. Plus it made the khlongs of Krungthep, my hometown, suddenly feel like Évian or San Pellegrino Terme. On the way back we decided to torture ourselves by using a commuter boat. To my left was sweat, to my right samosa, and below us all sewage. Yet who dared closing his eyes, ears and nose like three wise monkeys in this environment where “escape” was the only word one could hope for?
