Aristocrat Inn Hotel
Ranked #47 of 78 Dhaka City B&B and Inns
Reviewed April 23, 2014

The rate was too high for what you get. Run down rooms, old bathrooms, beat-up furniture, huge amounts of dust in the corners. I walked around with bare feet and had to wash them in the tub twice before bed because there was visible dust/dirt on them.

Also, they have "their own exchange rate" of 80 taka to the dollar (current rate was 78), so it is actually slightly more expensive than what they quote.

I've stayed in Dhaka several times before, and this was by far the worst hotel.

Room Tip: Ask them to clean your room before you go in.

We have been staying here many times for the last 6 months. Clean rooms, super friendly staff make it suitable for a family stay. NEVER agree if they offer to transfer you into another hotel which they do sometimes, it is crap

Apart from the ubiquitous sounds from nearby construction work, this basic hotel provides the best food, prepared from fresh ingredients; the friendliest service and the coldest beer I have had anywhere in Bangladesh. The room prices are reasonable and air-conditioned. Mattresses are on the hard side - but that is normal for this part of the world. The commercial centre of Gulshan Circle is a ten minute walk away but rickshaws are easily available a few yards from the hotel entrance. The hotel have a basic, but well equipped gym and there is also a park nearby.

Room Tip: A corner room has windows on two sides!

I stayed at the Aristocrat Inn for a total of 5 weeks over the September, October and November months of 2013. The Aristocrat Inn is a very basic hotel in the sense that it aims to provide good, clean basic services without luxury and it succeeds at that. Next door was construction going on which gets noisy during the day and sometimes in the evening but you find that at other hotels all over the city I heard from colleagues. The rooms are basic, but comfortable enough. The washrooms of the two rooms I stayed in were both pretty dingy and should be renovated. Then, why did I choose to stay at the Aristocrat Inn instead of other hotels close by in Gulshan? First, the hotel is located in a secure place in Dhaka which, particularly in time of political instability, blockades, demonstrations and hartals, is the place to stay, particularly if you are working for the UN which recognizes the Aristocrat to be in a UN safe area. Second, the Aristocrat Inn prices are very low - around 60 USD per night in autumn 2013 - and other hotels cost double the price for only marginally better rooms. If you want to cut expenses for longer stays, the Aristocrat Inn is definitely a viable option. Third, the manager, Mr. Tareque Ahmed Khan, is a very experienced, smart, charming, caring, fluently articulate in English, attentive and knowledgeable person who makes all guests feel at home - important especially for longer stays, and that sets the tone for the whole hotel experience. For example, when I needed a cable plus some assistance to hook up my computer to the TV, he was right there to make sure everything worked properly and he always checks on how the guests are doing and whether they might possibly need anything. He also provides useful advice on where to shop or on whatever you might ask him. Fourth, the service personnel are very good in the sense that they don’t impose themselves on you and they carry out their tasks very efficiently and they are always kind and very helpful to guests. Fifth, the rooms have a big flat-screen TV, excellent Wifi connection and a good choice of channels that includes HBO, Star TV, BBC, Aljazeera, CNN and some other foreign channels, plus a bunch of Bengali and Indian channels I didn’t bother to watch much. The wifi was almost always available and worked perfectly well for skype and downloading document files, and e-mail. Reliable wifi together with the TV channels, ensures you are plugged into the world rather than isolated from your contacts. Each room has a telephone that works fine enough. Sixth, 3 minutes away from the front door of the hotel, is the front entrance to the Lake Park which is a very attractive place to walk or jog and get some exercise in Gulshan, rather than to have to walk the streets for exercise when you want an alternative. The proximity of this park is definitely a bonus, particularly if you have to stay in Dhaka for a longer period and don’t want to get out of shape. Seventh, you are not far away from shopping districts on Road No. 11 and some other places in Gulshan. Eighth, and the most compelling personal reason for me to stay at the Aristocrat Inn was absolutely for the food which was unfailingly excellent and not at all expensive. I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner almost every single day at the hotel restaurant because it never made me sick, it was always tasty, salted just right and not oily or heavy. Two very experienced hotel chefs cook whatever you order from the menu which includes a wide range of starters, samosas, fried prawns, chicken tikka, breads etc, Indian, Chinese, Italian (which I never ordered since I live in Italy), or American main courses. There is plenty of choice of fish, prawn, chicken, beef, or lamb curries plus pasta dishes. The hotel food is so good that UNICEF was ordering it from the Aristocrat Inn. They make it pretty quick too. For dessert you can get creme caramel or ice cream or some other things, although I would have liked to sample some Indian sweets which they don’t have so you would have to get them from someplace outside. Frankly, hearing the words “Aristocrat Inn” now make me hungry. In short, on the basis of price, management, service, proximity to a very nice park, and food, I highly recommend the Aristocrat

Room Tip: The corner rooms are better.

I've been searching Dhaka for a good value, comfortable hotel for some time. This is the closest I've come. It's just around the corner from Lake Palace, a much pricier but not much better establishment. Aristocrat staff are friendly, capable and accommodating. They will do breakfast to order, bring you a beer and are helpful with local information. Problems with the bills at checkout - make sure you go over it thoroughly

This small hotel located in the Gulshan II diplomatic enclave is a perfect place for a consultant on a relatively short assignment. It is located on a fairly quiet street (though late night construction nis a hazard everywhere). It has a very good and reasonably priced restaurant and even has beer available. I changed my room after the first night paying a little extra for a much larger and more pleasant room. I found the staff helpful, the location good, and in general would highly recommend.

I stayed at the Aristocrat Inn for nearly a month. Nice rooms, good restaurant and good location make this hotel a nice place to stay. Environment can be tough (workers were hammering down the neighboring house 24/7 during the whole of my stay but it is the same everywhere in Dhaka.
Reception staff are nice and willing to provide you with any assistance you may need (Hotel shuttle to the airport is a must).

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the corner, much bigger and brighter than the others.
