Visited this lovely old hotel with my fiancee at beginning of July 2014. It's situated right in the middle of the Old City so is surrounded by historic monuments such as the Maiden Tower and an open air architectural museum. It's located in a pedestrianised part of the old city so no traffic, very quiet and within walking distance of lovely restaurants, parks, shops, etc. It is classified as 5 star but more like 4 star when compared with European hotels. It has a restaurant on the top floor which is used for breakfast and in the evening the roof can be folded back so you can see the sky and stars. There is a cafe bar which also serves shisha (kalian, hookah) on the floor below which is also partly open air. Both have great views of the old city, the sea and the Flame Towers. The food in the restaurants is good and reasonably priced. The room was one with an internal courtyard view (room no. 1) so we had to keep the curtains shut all the time. There were nice fittings in the room and the bed was very comfortable. The receptionists were very helpful and I would recommend the hotel to my friends.

I stayed at the Sultan Inn for 2 nights recently
Hotel is near the Maiden Tower in Old City Baku but lets itself down badly with rude reception staff, no luggage porter service (and no lift either), and the wifi is nothing short of hopeless (intermittent so emails can eventually download but not reliable enough for anything else - and useless for web browsing), room servicing was limited to replacing towels and making beds - no cleaning!
Aircon is not that effective so not comfortable when it is hot
The Terrace restaurant is good and well priced and has good views and is worth a visit without needing to stay in hotel

Room Tip: I would not bother

Boutique hotel well located in old city and good size room. However the attitude by staff was terrible. On arrival we asked if it was possible to have late check out and said we were happy to pay for it but were told very rudely that this was not available and if we didn't like it, go elsewhere. The air conditioning didn't work properly and internet rarely worked. On checkout we asked for a porter to help with luggage given there was no lift and was told there was no porter service - in a 4 star hotel. There were no maps or other sightseeing information available and directions we were given to a well known restaurant were incorrect. After 3 weeks in Caucasus this was our first bad experience and even our local guide and driver were shocked by the unnecessary rudeness.

Room Tip: It had free wifi but didn't work throughout hotel.

We loved this little hotel. We had a warm welcome, a comfortable bedroom, delicious dinners and great breakfasts! The four nights we stayed here were brilliant. The hotel was also perfectly situated to explore the old town and beyond. We really liked Baku and the Sultan Inn added to our enjoyment.

I initially was only meant to stay for 5 days and then move to a bigger, generic, business hotel, but couldn't bring myself to do it and ended up staying a month. I fell in love with this hotel - the staff, the restaurant and the location. You end up feeling like family and I can't say how much I will miss staying here. There is something truly magical about coming back to the Old City each day and waking up there as well.

It doesn't have a fitness centre (but I would run the Bulvar or run up to the Flame Towers) or a pool, but for Room Service you have the restaurant upstairs (I recommend the Gavurdag Salad and the chicken or lamb lule) so you don't have to worry about eating crappy club sandwiches and spaghetti bol that you get in name-brand generic hotels.

Altay, on reception, is also a qualified tour guide and is wonderful. He took me and my friend to Gobustan and was super knowledgeable and affordable. He speaks English and Russian.

The only thing to be aware of is that tax drivers have to pay a 2AZN fee to get into the Old CIty (and aren't allowed in between 5-7pm to ease traffic) so often you have to walk from the gates, which is only 2 mins but it is over cobbled streets, so a pain if you are a woman in high heels.

Aside from the restaurant upstairs which is considered one of best in Baku (it is!) there are cute little traditional restaurants by the main old gates that are cheap authentic food - you must check them out.

Room Tip: Room one has no window, which is fine if you are staying short term and don't spend much time in...

Visited last week for our first breakfast in Baku - great food, service and view made this a brilliant way to start our holiday.

We were unexpected however we were welcomed and given a great breakfast nonetheless. The fantastic view over the city makes this restaurant!
